Using Modules
To add an assignment:
Click the "+" button to the right of the module where you want it added
Click "[New Assignment]" and give the assignment a name
Click the "Add Item" button.
Click the newly added assignment's name.
Click the "Edit" button near the top.
Add your preferences, including
Your instructions - help students understand not only what to do, but how to do it in Canvas
Points Possible
Assignment Group (category) - info on setting this up can be found here
Submission Type
Online - choose any or all of the following types
text entry - simple online editor
Media Recordings - recorded audio or video
URL (link to assignment - works well with student created Google docs)
File Uploads - good for unique applications (CAD, Photoshop, etc.)
On Paper = the item will be scored here, but nothing is turned in online
use for paper assignments or projects
good for participation points
External Tool (Google template assignments)
BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR CHANGES (Save and Publish is a good way to get everything done at once)
To add a web link URL:
Click the "+" button to the right of the module where you want it added
Change the pull down menu to "External URL"
Paste the URL into the box labeled "URL".
Under Page Name, be sure to give a descriptive title "Kahoot Activity for 1-6-20"
Click the "Add Item" button.
To add a file:
Click the "+" button to the right of the module where you want the file listed
Change the pull down menu to "File"
Click the "[New File]" option in the list
Click the "Choose File" button and locate the file.
The file must be located on your device or server (not Google).
Be sure the file has a descriptive title "Class Notes for 1-6-20" vs. "Notes"
The "Folder" pull down option allows for you to designate where in Canvas this file will be stored.
Using this feature is helpful if you will use a lot of files.
You might even want to create folders for specific types of files (class notes, handouts, etc.)
Click the "Add Item" button.
Rearranging Modules and Module Items:
Modules can be reorganized simply by grabbing the handle (eight dots) on the left hand side, and dragging the module up or down.
Module items (assignments, pages, files, etc.) can be moved within a module, or moved to a different module altogether.
