Taking Your Files With You

Whether you are student or staff, when the time comes to leave the high school, you may have files, emails, contacts, etc. that you wish to take with you. Here's what you need to know.

Files located on the district server can be moved or copied to a USB thumb drive.

Google items require the use of Google Takeout:

  1. Make sure you are logged into your school Google account.

  2. Go to takeout.google.com

  3. Select the data you wish to take. For most users, it is best to "deselect all" and then check items of interest. Most users will want some or all of the following:

    1. bookmarks

    2. calendar items

    3. Classroom (for teachers)

    4. contacts

    5. Drive (includes all Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, etc.)

    6. Photos

    7. Mail (MBOX format will allow you to manage this from Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, and other common emails)

    8. YouTube videos

  4. After completing your selections, click "Next".

  5. Google will bundle your materials, and compress them for you to download. This will take a while. We suggest you follow the default "Archive Format" settings. (Skip to the bottom and click the blue "Create Archive" button.)

  6. You will receive an email, asking you to "confirm" this download (for security purposes).

  7. Once the files are processed, you will receive an email with a link to download your archived files. You will want to download these files onto your personally owned technology. YOU HAVE ONE WEEK BEFORE THIS LINK WILL EXPIRE, SO DON'T DELAY.
