Backing up and Restoring your Favorites for Internet Explorer

Backing up Favorites on WindowsXP

  1. Right-click on the “Start” button on the bottom-left of your screen. Select “Open” from the menu. You should be looking at a window titled “Start Menu”.

  2. You need to click on the “Up” icon to go up a level. Here you will see a collection of folders. You should also see a star icon labeled Favorites.

  1. Right-click on “Favorites” and click “Copy”.

  1. Navigate to your user folder on the server. Right-click where you want to store your backup and click “Paste”.

  2. You should now see a new folder there called “Favorites”. If you look inside, you should see all of your bookmarks.

Restoring your Favorites to WindowsXP

  1. Complete steps 1 & 2 from above on the machine you want to move Favorites into.

  2. Double-click on the “Favorites” star icon to open it. You will be adding your “old” favorites to this “new” favorites window.

  3. Resize that window so that you have room to work. (Make it smaller and move it to the right.)

  4. Open the location where your “old favorites” are backed up. (Should be in your user folder.)

  5. Open the “old” favorites file labeled “Favorites”. Resize this window smaller and to the left so that you can see the already open “new” favorites window on the right.

  1. Drag any or all favorites that you want to move onto this machine from the “old” Favorites window to the “new” Favorites window.

  2. Close up your windows and surf away!
