In this unit for Math, I got to learn about Quadratic Equations, Quadratic Functions, and Quadratic Inequalities. And being able to factorize, expand, use the discriminant rule, ect.
Honestly this Unit was a bit hard for me regarding that I didn’t get the highest scores on my tests and quizzes. I struggle with Algebra and this unit hit me at my weakest spot.
Although it was hard, I enjoyed learning about the different forms of Quadratic Functions, which are the standard, factored and vertex forms. I also thought it was interesting when we had to apply these forms when we find equations on graphs or even draw a graph because it really lets me dig deep into my knowledge. The hardest part about Math is its application of knowledge!
But it’s safe to say that I did struggle in a few parts such as optimization, factoring and completing the square. I realized that after I completed my tests, I missed some steps when I applied these, like forgetting to expand brackets or dividing each side equally–the small mistakes that end up being the big ones. But regardless, I will continue to review and practice my weaknesses so that I can get a decent, satisfying grade on my final semester 1 exam!
Quiz
Throughout this unit, my quiz results reflected both my progress and the challenges I faced with quadratic equations and functions. At first, I struggled to fully grasp factoring, completing the square, and applying the discriminant rule. These topics required precision, and small calculation errors often lowered my scores. However, the quiz helped me identify what I misunderstood and pushed me to review my notes more carefully. Over time, I noticed gradual improvement in recognizing patterns, especially when working with different forms of quadratic equations. Although my quiz results were not as high as I hoped, they served as valuable checkpoints to track my understanding. They reminded me that consistent practice is essential in math and that mistakes are opportunities for growth. Moving forward, I plan to focus on strengthening my algebraic skills to boost my confidence and accuracy before the unit test and final exam.
Test
The unit test on quadratic equations, functions, and inequalities was definitely challenging for me. My results showed that while I understood the basic concepts, I still made small but costly errors when applying them. I realized that I often missed steps like expanding correctly or dividing both sides evenly, which affected my overall score. Despite that, I was proud of the effort I put into preparing for the test and my ability to recall different forms of quadratic equations, such as standard, vertex, and factored forms. The test also helped me understand how much application matters in math—knowing formulas isn’t enough unless I can use them effectively in problem-solving. Although my mark wasn’t as high as I aimed for again, I view this as motivation to practice more consistently, seek help when needed, and refine my understanding before the semester exam so I can achieve better results.
My SMART goal is to improve my understanding of algebra by practicing at least 30 minutes per week and aiming for an 85% GPA by the end of the school year. So far, about a quarter into the year, I’ve made some progress toward this goal, though it hasn’t been completely smooth. I’ve been consistent with some of my weekly practice sessions, especially when preparing for quizzes and tests on quadratic equations and functions. However, I’ve realized that I still need to strengthen my focus during practice to reduce small mistakes, such as forgetting steps in factoring or completing the square. My current scores show improvement compared to the start of the year, even if they’re not quite at my target yet. Overall, I’m proud of the effort I’ve put in so far and plan to continue reviewing regularly, asking for help when needed, and tracking my progress to reach my goal by May 2026.
