Task Description:
For this assignment, we participated in fishbowl discussions using TQE (Thoughts, Questions, Epiphanies) based on the weekly articles and the essential question. We prepared reflections beforehand and then shared, listened, and responded to others in a structured group discussion.
Academic Growth:
The fishbowl discussions strengthened my ability to analyze texts in real time and articulate nuanced ideas using evidence. Instead of only writing responses, I had to communicate my interpretations verbally and connect them directly to the readings and the essential question. The format encouraged deeper questioning, critical thought, and the ability to build on others’ ideas while still grounding my reasoning in the text. It improved my academic communication skills, particularly supporting claims with clear logic and examining how textual concepts apply beyond the page.
Personal Growth:
On a personal level, the discussions taught me the value of listening as actively as speaking. Hearing classmates’ perspectives helped me consider interpretations I might not have reached on my own and showed me how different backgrounds shape the way people understand literature and social issues. Speaking in front of peers also helped me build confidence and clarity in expressing my thoughts. This experience reminded me that learning is collaborative, and that complex issues are best explored through conversation rather than in isolation.
