UNIT ESSENTIAL QUESTION: WHAT KINDS OF CONFLICT DO PEOPLE FACE?
UNIT NOVEL
The story is about a twelve-year-old boy called Dennis, who lives with his father and his older brother. After his Mother leaves, Dennis develops a fascination with a dress that reminds him of her, which instigates a new found love for fashion.
ARTIFACTS - ESSAY & PROJECT
I was assigned to do this project after reading The Boy in the Dress, to put elements that are related to the novel in each rectangle + decoration. This is to reflect over the novel and characters using symbolism, characterization, specific events,..
One-Pager Reflection
This project was a lot of fun and easy to complete, especially in comparison to other projects I've worked on. Because I'd never created or seen a one-pager before, it took me a bit to grasp the concept, but once I did, it was rather simple to complete. Because I have some expertise with art, it was enjoyable to decorate and draw the characters. Another reason is that this novel was simple to grasp the concept and understand what the author was saying; therefore I finished the one-pager and received a pleasant perfect score!! Aside from that, the project provided me with opportunities to learn and practice a variety of skills. For example, it allowed me to practice my drawing and decorating skills, as well as the words I used on the one-pager, and it helped me understand the novel's moral and characters.
I was assigned to write a problem solution essay on a topic that also had a connectin with the novel, i chose the topic "What is the best way to help a friend who is depressed? ".
Problem Solution Essay Reflection
To summarize, this essay was pretty challenging for me. I purposefully chose a more difficult topic than usual in order to challenge myself, and I was successful. I chose the question "What is the best way to help a friend who is depressed?" and then presented the solutions in the essay. In general, I dislike writing formal and instructive texts since I have to apply actual reasoning to come up with effective solutions, which is diametrically opposed to other sorts of entertaining writing that allow me to be creative with what I write. Despite the difficulty, I was able to learn a lot and improve my formal writing skills. Ms Ciara let the class to practice a lot together, which made it easier to complete. It was also a terrific opportunity for me to reflect on the way I thought and write; after all, I received a satisfactory score, which motivated me to work even harder in my studies.
CLASS DISCUSSIONS & FOCUS SKILLS
(elements that I liked learning about this unit)
Depression is a constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest, which stops you doing your normal activities.
Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.
A protagonist is the main character in a story or a narrative, around whom the plot revolves.
A thesis statement should show exactly what your paper will be about, and will help you keep your paper to a manageable topic.
OVERALL UNIT REFLECTION
In conclusion, this unit teacher me many valuable lessons about human conflicts. Although I don't pay attention much about the things that are happening around me, this unit really gave me a better understanding of the importance of paying attention to my surroundings, especially to the people around me who are getting treated differently. Even through an academic essay, I was able to advocate for the things I have done wrong, and learn for the better. Other than that, I learnt the elements that make up a good piece of literature - the protagonist and their goal, symbolism, theme analysis and the events that buid up a character. Overall, this unit became quite helpful to me - especially to how i interact with people in reality, how I must understand other people'es feelings and treat everybody equally, thankfully to all the class disscussions and focus skills I have have educated about in class.
