ESSENTIAL QUESTION: HOW DOES OUR PAST AFFECT OUR FUTURE?
This novel tells the story of a livestock pig named Wilbur, including his relationship with a barn spider named Charlotte. Other than that, it shows how Wilbur communicates with his barn friends and how life is like there. Consequences happen when Wilbur knows that he will be slaughtered.
This is a story told from the perspective of a young Taino boy about how he tried to warn his people against welcoming strangers who seemed more interested in gold ornaments than friendship. Years later, the boy, now an old man, reflects on the colonizers' destruction of his people and culture.
MY WORKS
This cause-and-effect essay allowed us to choose any topic we wanted. For me, I chose the topic "Social media's impact on us." Overall, I was able to put together a pretty nice and well-built essay.
MAIN PROJECTS
For this project, me and my group had to make our own utopia that was mixed with three cultures. For ours, we chose Greece, Japan, and Italy. We decided to name it "Costa Pacifica" since our country was connected to the ocean. At the end, we were able to complete all the slides, the brochure, the history brochure, and our video advertisement. My teammates were very helpful in this project.
This brochure was also included in our cause and effect country project. This brochure is for advertising the festivals/events in our made-up country. We included a cake-baking competition, a sailing race, and even a marathon. It was really fun to create since there was figurative language included in the brochure.
MINI PROJECTS
For this project, we had to choose a random country and then make an advertisement or brochure about that country with subjects that would attract Vietnamese immigrants. For our project, we chose America and decided to advertise our made-up places such as the "Vietnamese Viet Quen Noodle House" or even the "Phuc Loc" hotel.
Ancient Civillization
My team chose to present about Rome. We chose it because its civilization seemed really interesting and vintage. We completed a slide show and a large poster. The poster explained its history and civilization. The slideshow talked about topics such as food, architecture, clothing, etc.
The evolution of FPS video games ranged from 1973 (first game ever made) to now. We talked about how the evolution of these games slowly got better and improved throughout time and the management of technology. Including future predictions and a conclusion we made about what we think games will be like in the future.
This food mix project is for us to make made-up dishes that mix the cultures of different countries. For example, in my project, we chose to mix Greece, Japan, and Italy in a dish called "Ramenasty". Basically about a mix of ramen (Japan) and pasta (Italy) with greece cheese.
DESCRIPTIVE LANGUAGE - LITERARY ANALYSIS
Unit 3 was an excellent choice for me. I was able to participate in a variety of enjoyable activities while also learning new and interesting information.
The majority of my work in this unit was inspired by the novel "Charlotte's Web." It basically tells the story of a livestock pig who lives in a barn with other animals and his actions. Aside from that, many projects took place and were completed. My and my team's fictitious "Utopia" and other figurative brochures were among the major projects. Our mini-projects were about evolution and different countries' civilizations. I didn't know much about ancient civilizations or evolution, so I was excited to learn about them and create a presentation about them. To be honest, literary analysis was just as simple as the other units 1 and 2. I became more familiar with sensory details, themes, and, most importantly, figurative language. I found these to be very useful in my writing and reading because they helped me form a mental picture and made me feel more creative while doing so.
The unit test was my favorite part of everything I did in this unit. Unit tests in ELA always seem simple to me because we only have to write an essay. The best part is that we get to use our minds and express ourselves creatively. I chose a topic that was directly related to my real-life experiences, so it was extremely beneficial.I ended up getting a high score, so I was overall very happy with myself.
Once again, I really likes this Unit and I hope I can use my learning information to help me with things i struggle with.
