CHANGES OF STATE
Sublimation
The surface particles of a solid gain enough energy that they form gas (completely skipping liquid form).
Condensation
The change in state from a gas to liquid.
Evaporation
Vaporization that takes place only on the surface is called evaporation.
Vaporization
The change in state from a liquid to a gas is called vaporization.
COMPONENTS
The total kinetic energy and potential energy of all the particles in an object or substance.
A measure of the average kinetic and potential energy of the particles in an object or substance.
The melting point is usually defined as the point at which materials changes from a solid to a liquid.
The temperature at which a liquid changes to a solid is its freezing point. The freezing point of water is 0°C (32°F). Other types of matter may have higher or lower freezing points.
The boiling point for any material is the temperature point at which the material transforms into the gas phase in the liquid phase. This happens at 100 degrees centigrade for water.
