COMPONENTS
Acids taste sour, turn blue litmus paper red, feel wet, are proton donors (release hydrogen ions in solution) and include common household substances such as citrus fruits, soda, and vinegar.
A base is a substance that can neutralize the acid by reacting with hydrogen ions. Most bases are minerals that react with acids to form water and salts.
Indicator
Indicators are substances whose solutions change color due to changes in pH. These are called acid-base indicators.
Neutralization
Neutralisation is a reaction where an acid reacts with an alkali to form a neutral solution of a salt and water.
Salt
Sodium chloride forms from the ionic bonding of sodium ions and chloride ions.
Corrosive
A corrosive substance is able to destroy solid materials by a chemical reaction. Sodium and sulphur are highly corrosive.
