Our vision is to create fashion that allows the wearer to express their unique identity and life journey. We create patchwork art that symbolically represents important aspects of the wearer’s identity which could include their philosophical ideas, culture, religion, language, love of pets…really anything that is deeply meaningful. Our dream is for clothing to be a catalyst for self expression and heart-touching interactions with the larger community. Imagine being at a party where someone compliments your clothing and that opens an opportunity for you to share a deeply meaningful story or idea. Now imagine multiple people in the party wearing symbolic clothes, we would jump over small talk and directly dive, swim and explore one another's souls!
In the future we want to create a collective of multidisciplinary collaborators, a place of skill acquisition and education, and perhaps even a business. Check out our more professional website.
Culture as Identity - In my American Identity series, I have explored how to express the unique beauty of the United States by showing how all of our cultural diversity can lead to new innovations. In these events, people share aspects of their culture which grows empathy and appreciation of each culture. Then, we take ideas from each culture to create something unique, new and representative. In the past, we have held community events on multicultural festivals and cooking. Now, we create a space to explore this through fashion.
Science as Identity - Because I am scientist, I wanted to express my research ideas and identity through fashion. Our first goal is to create fashion that symbolically encodes the research of scientists. This allows fashion designers to use new sources of inspiration and scientists to communicate their research to a wider audience. Our second goal is to create opportunities for fashion interns to meet scientists, learning both fashion and science.
Life Story as Identity - In this section, we create fashion that represents important ideas, memories and experiences that formed a person's life journey. This can be a way for a person to share deep moments.
Eventually we will have a much larger collaborative. Right now, it is myself and Nellie Theroux who teaches fashion at Lasell University, The School of Fashion Design and Fisher College. You can learn more about Nellie on her website.
