WHS Research Course

Something epic is happening on the first day of school!! For the past 7 years, Marisa Maddox and I have been collaborating on the WHS Summer Research Program where students spend 6 weeks in Brandeis labs learning inquiry based research. However, this program was limited because we could only take in 4-8 students per summer. So, starting today, we will be co-teaching a course at Waltham High School where students are given an introduction into research! Students will be taught how to read scientific literature and how to propose ideas that have never been explored before and then they will implement these ideas. There will 3 main research modules: The Environment, Depression/Psychology, and Augmenting the Human. After the research modules, students will do a capstone project and at the end they will learn about making business pitches and science entrepreneurship. In addition to this, our goal is to focus on more holistic ideas...such as how do you create a community to sustain your spirit and from where you can also find multidisciplinary collaborations. Through this community building we also want to explore ideas like American Identity and Destiny. As this course unfolds, I will provide updates on the content. Finally, we were thinking of creating an alumni network, so that these students are connected to the vast WHS universe. So, if you are a former WHS students and want to get involved, let me know. And as always, if anyone wants to collaborate, feel free to contact me.
