Happy Birthday to my Mother! Here is a picture I made where my mother, myself, my sister, my brother and my nephew (my sister's son) are all about the same age! It is like we are all chill'n together!
As I age, sometimes I feel deeply surreal moments that transport me into a state of awe. I remember once I was talking with a young indian couple who were my age, and who had children and suddenly I felt like I was looking at my mother but not as a child but rather as a peer! And it was so unreal! It is hard to describe. I have very formative memories of my parents and world when I was 4+ years older. My parents seemed like a different species of human, I saw them and other adults from the perspective of a child. Now, as a middle aged man, I see parents with 4 year old children and I am the adult! In those moments, my 4 year old self's vision merges my 40 year old self and I see a parent from all perspectives. It is so mindblowing to think, 'oh this is what my mother must have felt' when I was 10 years old...because I am her age now when she was a parent to a pre-teen me.
