John Patterson bought the land and built the original buildings for a summer retreat for National Cash Register. John was sentenced to 1 year in federal jail for violations of the Sherman Trust Act in using illegal tactics to control 95% of the cash register industry.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is named in honor of John Patterson's nephew who died in training flight for World War II.

The large Stump in front of Gilman at the camp road intersection was a massive pine tree that was Split Vertically by lightning during a Fathers Day work weekend in 1996!
