Evening Program for High School session
Based on the HBO series this camp evening event had the camp taken over by infection while the campers fought to save themselves and their camp. This was presented at the High School level with very safe spaces and activities for those not wishing to get caught up in the scarey events taking place. Campers were told it was not real.
- listen to Audio file above. This Teenage session (Ballou) evening program was produced by Katie Malloy the Large Program Specialist on staff. The entire staff was involved in the production. Katie wrote a 17 page script of the event and she called it "My Magnum Opus". Not very many photos were taken as every staff was wrapped up in the event.

Director Kristen Fiore teaching lock picking - final challenge was to break into padlocked cabins to retrieve needed batteries during the infection break-out - without disturbing the INFECTED.
For campers wanting to stay out of the horror but still participate the staff had incredible activities like this station in upper Gilman where one monitored the video feeds and through the walkie-talkies could misdirect the infected away from the hiding survivors.
To late for the unfortunates found in the woods quad - Clickers lying dormant in wait for some noisy campers and staff trying to pick locks on the cabins to obtain the needed batteries.
The Last of Us HUMANS VS ZOMBIES
INTRO:
(At dinner - we give them a reminder that Evening Program is fake, and no matter what we say - it’s pretend)
The fireflies and the campers start outside of the lodge porch. CALEB (assistant director) leads emergency-drill style cabin count. LARK tells the campers that we didn’t want to alarm them because we’ve been in this bubble up in the Adirondacks, but there is a cordyceps virus that has started to reach other parts of the country and we couldn’t hold back the information any more for their safety.
THEN - Roxie (large crew pickup truck) drives up past the shower house - JOEL (DIEGO) driving, ELLIE (ABBY) in the back. They introduce themselves and tell us that they’ve stopped here on their travels to let us know that the virus has spread up to the remote areas and the infected ones are not far away.
JOEL (DIEGO) tells us that he and the Fireflies have started to set up base camp inside of the building we call Gilman, and we all need to move there so that we’re protected while they explain more of what’s going on.
THE CAMP MOVES TO GILMAN - THROUGH EXTERIOR BARRICADE
Once the camp moves - the clickers should leave Morse and go to their stations. Sam will facilitate that!
After everyone is seated in Gilman - the FIREFLY LEADER (KT - with DJ, RILEY, T, AND BECCA (see photo) standing up with her) introduces herself and explains that there are multiple tasks the campers can complete, and they can move between all tasks at any point.
The tasks are:
Various prep stations in/around Gilman
Security center (explained further by staff assigned when the kids go up there) in the Krusty Bucket (upstairs in Gilman)
Runners (opt-in active/scary) - initiation in the horseshoe (outside Gilman) for folks that elect to participate
The FIREFLY LEADER (KT) also explains that there is a completely isolated, non-doomsday related opt-out space in the art ship (art shop) that will not be touched by the infected. If at any point during gameplay folks would like to access that space, there will be a firefly (T or BECCA) who will escort them down there and make sure that there is absolutely no contact with the infected.
The OPT-OUT LEADERS (SOPH + CASEY) will then take a group of kids down (JOSIE will drive their car down as a shuttle option) that would like to completely opt-out.
*(NOTE: The Last of Us never uses the word “zombies”, it’s always “the infected”. The fully transformed infected are called clickers)*
FINALE:
When the runners have returned with the batteries after round 2 of gameplay, they will drive all of the staff and infected campers to the edges of the barricade. They will all be visible from gilman, but will not enter.
Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) will announce that we have collected enough supplies to keep us safe, and they are going to drive the zombies out of here and move on to their next destination.
As they did in the intro - Joel (DIEGO) will drive Roxie with Ellie (ABBY) in the back maybe 10-20 feet down camp road. All of the infected (including the infected campers) will follow. Camp will be saved! Yay!
A bell will ring, and everyone will go to their cabins to get ready for campfire.
THIS SECTION OF THE DOCUMENT IS FOR: SOPH, CASEY, JOSIE
The complete opt-out station will be at the art ship.

If at any point they need to go down to the art ship, they can use the path behind the lodge as a safe space with an escort and go down the art ship stairs. The Firefly Escorts (BECCA & T) will escort them. They will also figure out car transport if needed.

These stations will run the entire length of the program and campers can join/leave at any point.

Kristen will set up some materials. Learn what climbing gear is, how to repel, how to set things up with the least amount of gear (ex 3-4 carabiners) etc. Useful climbing skills for actual navigation of terrain at the end of the world vs a nice clean climbing set-up.

Look at foliage etc native to the nearby area and practice camouflaging yourself. This is not for the infected because they can’t see, but instead this is to protect yourself from raiders. Should rotate through/start over as new campers stop by.

Station: Krusty Bucket (Gilman Lounge) Porch
There will be 3-4 sets of zooms set up on the porch that show long stretches of camp (parking lot, lodge porch, field). The computers that are set up in the infected zone will have walkies set up next to each of them that are set to the same channel as 1-2 walkies on the Krusty Bucket porch. When the campers in the control room see the clickers on the screen of their zooms, they will use the walkies to make sounds that distract them. If a clicker hears the sounds, they will be required to walk up to the camera screen and be “stunned” (still making creepy movements for the entertainment of the security center campers) for 10 seconds.
Round 2 will happen in the woods quad, Katie will move the field camera there before it starts.

Explaining the gameplay rules of being a runner, and sending the kids out on supply missions in groups of 2-3 with red light flashlights (give out flashlights once it gets dark).
For round 1 - the groups can go out and get one item from a location, return it to you, and then go back out for another item so that they are able to continuously play until the second round begins. If one of their group members becomes infected and they return alone, wait to pair them up with another person.
For round 2 - you will send them all out on one group mission to the Woods Quad with Joel and Ellie. This will be the round that includes the dormant camper-clickers that have received instructions and makeup while in quarantine. While you are explaining, Joel will “make a plan to distract them and send them down camp road” (as per gameplay) that you should go along with as if it’s new information.

You will act as armed guards for the barricade. If a camper needs to be escorted to the full opt-out space, one of you will take them down to the art ship. If they need to be taken down in a car, you will have to figure out car transit with Josie or Katie.

RUNNERS ROUND 1 (OPT-IN SCARY/ACTIVE) GAMEPLAY

GAMEPLAY RULES FOR CAMPERS
The infected cannot see, they can only hear. You need to move quietly and stealthily. If you make noise, they will chase you.
You can use red light flashlights to see without making too much of a disturbance
The Security Center is set up to help distract the infected. If you are near a stretch of camp with a security camera, you can signal the Center to make noises over the walkie and the infected will walk up to the camera and give you a 10 second head start.
If you are captured by a zombie - you are infected. The infection takes a bit of time to run through your body, so if you are caught you will need to go to quarantine (outside of Leining) and await further instructions.
Building interiors CAN and WILL be used - every camper space is available for use in Round 1 except for the woods quad cabins, waterfront, chapel, campfire circle, and boat house. NO CAMP ROAD.
Once you retrieve an object, you must bring it back to the horseshoe and await instructions for a different object
The first round is about getting necessary supplies from various places around camp to keep at headquarters. The runners will need to avoid the infected while successfully retrieving the items. They will be sent out in pairs/trios, facilitated by DJ.

RUNNERS ROUND 2 (OPT-IN SCARY/ACTIVE) GAMEPLAY
When we hit round 2, it will be about getting the batteries/generators that we need to keep light going throughout the night. This will be an all-camper mission (folks who are opting into being runners) and they will need a second debrief with DJ, Kristen, and Lou as well as Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) in the horseshoe.
There will be one battery stashed in each woods quad cabin.
During round 1, Kristen will have boarded up and locked the secondary doors to all of the woods quad cabins, and there will be one door for each cabin that is locked with a padlock.
Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) will have done some recon and figured out that the doors are locked, so they will explain this with DJ.
Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) will let the campers know that there is a group of infected lying dormant in the woods quad. The mission is to go unlock the cabins, retrieve the batteries, and bring them back to firefly headquarters without making enough noise to trigger the infected.
THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) along with DJ will let the campers know that there is a larger quantity of infected now that some of the campers have gotten caught, so if they do wake up (surprise - they will!) Joel (DIEGO) will create some sort of noise diversion to lead them away. THE HUMAN CAMPERS WILL STAY IN THE WOODS QUAD WITH ELLIE (ABBY) UNTIL HE RETURNS. When he returns - Joel (DIEGO), Ellie (ABBY), and the human campers will all run through the parking lot and past sweet to return the batteries to the firefly headquarters in gilman.
The surveillance camera situation will not be in effect for this round, but there may be a camera (depending on ran) in the woods quad during round 2 so the campers in the Krusty Bucket (Gilman Lounge) can watch what’s happening.
THEN…..AT THIS POINT -
Kristen and Lou will teach the campers how to pick locks, DJ will make sure all of the campers have red light flashlights, and the whole squad will head over to complete the mission in the woods quad. Wooooooo!
QUARANTINE INFO - ROUND 1 & 2
THIS SECTION OF THE DOCUMENT IS FOR: LARK, CHUCK, FRAN
Location: Leining Porch - into Leining and down Lark’s stairs to Laundry Room
(alt. side stairs if Leining has actual sick campers in it)
You’re running the quarantine station! We have gowns, masks, and gloves for you that will be available at Leining for you to change into when the program starts. You can run an indigestion or help set up since that’s an easy costume change.
Throughout round 1, you will receive 12 campers that have been infected by the clickers and will have been instructed to visit you. You will triage them - have them sit either on the Leining porch or inside Leining (depending on if there are campers in there that need actual assistance) and give them a show of checking them out, taking their temperature, etc.
Once you have determined that they are in fact infected, you will take them down a set of stairs (again - either Lark’s stairs or the outside stairs) into the Laundry room. Here, you will apply fake blood and makeup to turn them into zombies.
One of you should be down doing zombie makeup, one of you should be up in Leining with Lark. You can decide which is which.
They will be coming in spurts, so we’ll have the show playing down there for them to watch while they wait.
Once all of the campers have been collected into the laundry room/trip camp garage area (they can spread if we need - will be a lot of them) you’ll instruct them about gameplay for round 2.
ROUND 2 - INFECTED CAMPER GAMEPLAY
For round 2 - the infected campers will meet the clicker staff in the woods quad. The staff know what’s going on, so the primary thing that the campers should know is whatever the 6 clicker staff are doing, they should be following and doing the same, and they should never touch or tag any of the human campers. They are just there to be scary - no more tagging!.
Tell the campers that they will all lie dormant around the woods quad (can sit/stand if too wet). The mission for the human campers is to retrieve the batteries from inside all 4 boarded/locked woods quad cabins. The human campers, Joel, Ellie, Kristen, and Lou will all come to the woods quad and start to pick the locks on the cabin doors. Once they start to pick the locks, that will be the noise trigger that wakes all of the dormant infected up. The infected campers should start to move with the staff to freak out the human campers, but SHOULD NOT ENTER THE CABINS.
You should also tell the campers that at some point Joel (DIEGO) will create a noise diversion. When that happens, they should all follow him to the showerhouse area and hide there.
Then - Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) will then return to the human campers and lead them back from the woods quad through the parking lot and back to gilman. When they reach the showerhouse, the infected campers and clicker staff should chase the human campers up to the barricade but NOT ENTER THE GILMAN BARRICADE AREA.
For the finale - Joel (DIEGO) and Ellie (ABBY) will herd out the infected campers and staff zombies down camp road, so they should know to follow the staff there but not go too far. When the bell rings, they should all return and go to their cabins!
Katie or Sam will stop by or radio to let you know that round 2 is beginning, and to take the kids to the woods quad.
CLICKER INFO - ROUND 1 & 2
THIS SECTION OF THE DOCUMENT IS FOR: NINA, KIRA, RIZZO, SEQUOIA, JULES, BONES
Station: Sweet
STAFF: Nina
You are a clicker! These are the “zombies” of the show - they cannot see, but they can hear. The cordyceps mushroom has taken over your body, so you are no longer human and are just a host for the infected.
Wear clothes you can get fake blood on. You should not run an indigestion, and should head to Morse to get ready.
ROUND 1
Supply you’re nearby: Tampons - Sweet Common Room
Move in/around the sweet/front lodge exterior. DO NOT ENTER THE GILLMAN BARRICADE AREA.
Because you cannot see - you should be slow and creepy until they steal the object. They will be using flashlights once it gets dark, and that should not affect you at all. Only move at them if they make noises. They will know to be quiet. But also - scare them!
During the course of round 1, you should only tag two people. Those tags should not happen immediately. Wait until you have at least a second group visit your area to tag someone.
At some points you should get in view of the nearby zoom (set up on lodge porch). The campers in the control room will be making noises at you over the walkies once you’re in view, and if you hear them you should walk up to the zoom and act creepy for the camera - also giving the runner campers in your area time for you to be effectively “stunned”.
ROUND 2
For round 2, you will go to the woods quad and lie dormant on the ground (or stand/sit if still super wet) with the infected campers and the other zombies. It will be communicated to you via Sam or Katie when you should head over there.
When the campers start to pick the locks of the woods quad cabins, you should get up with the campers and slowly chase them inside. DO NOT ENTER THE CABINS. Joel will then make his big noise distraction and you should follow him to the area around the showerhouse.
Once you get to the showerhouse/chairs area, you and the zombie campers will wait and hide until Joel, Ellie, and the human campers get to you. At that point, you all will chase them down to Gilman until you get to the barricade. Once at the barricade, you will act creepy and pace around - but you will NOT move into the barricaded space. Joel and Ellie will yell that they’re getting into the truck and are going to drive the infected away from camp.
For the finale - Joel and Ellie will drive Roxie down camp road, and herd you, the other zombies, and the zombie campers down the road maybe 10 feet, “successfully driving the zombies away from camp and making it safe again.” The folks in the firefly headquarters will take everyone who wants to outside to watch. The end!
Station: Lower Lodge
STAFF: Kira
You are a clicker! These are the “zombies” of the show - they cannot see, but they can hear. The cordyceps mushroom has taken over your body, so you are no longer human and are just a host for the infected.

Because you cannot see - you should be slow and creepy until they steal the object. They will be using flashlights once it gets dark, and that should not affect you at all. Only move at them if they make noises. They will know to be quiet. But also - scare them!
During the course of round 1, you should only tag two people. Those tags should not happen immediately. Wait until you have at least a second group visit your area to tag someone.
At some points you should get in view of the nearby zoom (set up in stevens). The campers in the control room will be making noises at you over the walkies once you’re in view, and if you hear them you should walk up to the zoom and act creepy for the camera - also giving the runner campers in your area time for you to be effectively “stunned”.
ROUND 2
For round 2, you will go to the woods quad and lie dormant on the ground (or stand/sit if still super wet) with the infected campers and the other zombies. It will be communicated to you via Sam or Katie when you should head over there.
When the campers start to pick the locks of the woods quad cabins, you should get up with the campers and slowly chase them inside. DO NOT ENTER THE CABINS. Joel will then make his big noise distraction and you should follow him to the area around the showerhouse.
Once you get to the showerhouse/chairs area, you and the zombie campers will wait and hide until Joel, Ellie, and the human campers get to you. At that point, you all will chase them down to Gilman until you get to the barricade. Once at the barricade, you will act creepy and pace around - but you will NOT move into the barricaded space. Joel and Ellie will yell that they’re getting into the truck and are going to drive the infected away from camp.
For the finale - Joel and Ellie will drive Roxie down camp road, and herd you, the other zombies, and the zombie campers down the road maybe 10 feet, “successfully driving the zombies away from camp and making it safe again.” The folks in the firefly headquarters will take everyone who wants to outside to watch. The end!
