Beastkin

Beastkin is a term used to describe a wide array of different Lesserkin races that resemble half-human, half-animal hybrids. Each species of beastkin typically has a vaguely humanoid shape, but with physical characteristics more commonly found with various species of animals such as fur, horns, or claws. For example the Kottur race resembles humanoid lions, while Lyncans resemble humanoid wolves. Beastkin are not a singular race in a biological sense. Nevertheless this diverse collection of species are often grouped together for cultural reasons by the other Elderkin and Lesserkin races in Tyrrell.

Examples of races commonly recognized beastkin races include Centaurs, Minotaurs, Mustelins, among many others. Widely scattered across Tyrrell, beastkin technology ranges from Stone Age to early modern. In the Third Age humans and Elderkin often try to sway Beastkin tribes and nations into supporting their respective sides. 

The origin of the beastkin races and why they resemble other animal species is a hotly debated topic. Some biologists theorize they evolved naturally or else had their evolution effected by naturally occurring magic. Others claim they were created through intelligent design, either by gods or the ancient Forgotten. The topic is often a sensitive subject with controversial implications on a cultural scale.
