The Kraken, stands as one of the most formidable and enigmatic creatures in Tyrrell's oceans. Resembling a colossal cephalopod, the Kraken is a majestic and powerful being that shares characteristics with both octopuses and squids. Its immense size, reaching up to 4-500 meters and potentially more, makes it a true leviathan of the deep.
Like Unicorns and Dragons, Krakens require a strong connection to the Field, often residing along Ley-Lines. These fieldic energy sources contribute to their immense size, regenerative abilities, and longevity.
Tentacles: Krakens boast 8-10 long, suckered tentacles emerging from the base of their head. These appendages, some as thick as a galleon's main mast, possess tremendous strength. Full-grown adults can use their powerful forearms to split a ship into fragments in mere seconds.
Regeneration: Similar to starfish, the regeneration abilities and toughness of the Kraken's hide contribute significantly to its resilience and survival in the harsh underwater environments. The Kraken's hide, composed of a complex network of interwoven Fieldically charged tissues, possesses an exceptional level of durability.
The hide acts as a natural armor, offering protection against various underwater hazards and potential predators. In the event of injury, especially near strong Fieldic nodes or Ley-Lines, the Kraken's remarkable regenerative capacity comes into play. This unique ability allows the Kraken to heal wounds, regrow lost limbs, and repair damaged tissues over time.
The regenerative process is particularly efficient if the Kraken is allowed to rest and recover in proximity to potent Fieldic sources.
Teeth Rows: The elves categorize Krakens into five different stages or "rows" based on the number of tooth rows they possess. Each row corresponds to a specific age and size, with the prime breeding age occurring around the second row, typically between 50-100 years old.
Omnivorous Diet: Krakens are omnivores, with a preference for whales as their main source of prey. However, they are known to hunt or capture various forms of marine life, including plants. Despite their predatory nature, they refrain from harming corals.
Fieldic Hibernation: The eldest Krakens require extended periods of hibernation, resting on top of volcanic vents where they can directly siphon Fieldic energies from their source. This process maintains their immense size and longevity.
During the prime breeding age at the 2nd row, Krakens engage in a majestic and communal courtship ritual along the Ley-Lines, calling out for potential mates.Once a pair forms a bond and mates, the gestation period begins, lasting approximately two years. Both the Kraken parents actively participate in nurturing their live-born young, usually in litters of 1-3, until the offspring reach around 20 years of age.
Two Krakens can get 4-5 litters through their bonded time. The familial bond contributes to the survival and development of the Kraken offspring. However, as the parents reach the 3rd row and their behaviors turn more territorial, mates often choose to part ways when their progeny becomes self-sufficient, embracing a more solitary existence.
This unique blend of communal courtship and familial dedication showcases the intricate social dynamics within the Kraken species during their crucial breeding stages.
Kraken in Elven Society:
In certain coastal regions, rare nobles of elevated status keep Krakens as a symbol of prestige, showcasing their prowess in mastering the wild spirits of the sea. However, the sea elves of Hvel'Xiren take this bond to a deeper level, forming an inseparable connection with the Krakens. The sea elves, also known as "sea singers," share a symbiotic relationship with these creatures, harmonizing their magical energies with the Fieldic currents that flow through the ocean.
This extraordinary bond goes beyond mere mounts, as the sea elves and Krakens together embody the harmony between elves and the mystical forces of the sea, fostering a deep, spiritual connection that transcends the boundaries of rider and mount.
