At the center of the system lies Mother, a young red giant star of 1.5 solar masses. Mother has a luminosity 8.16 times that of Earth’s sun, a radius of 2,434,950 kilometers (3.5 times that of Earth’s sun) and a surface temperature of 5,215 kelvin, giving sunlight on Tyrrell a slight orange tint compared to sunlight on Earth.
Mother is orbited by nine planets. In order of distance from Mother, these planets are Attendant, Little Brother, Sister, Little Sister, Greater Twin, Lesser Twin, Elder Sister, Father, and Outcast. These planets are collectively known as Mother’s Children.
Astronomy as a science, rather than as mysticism, is mostly a lesserkin pursuit. Of the elderkin, Cyclopes are the most accepting of astronomy as a science.
