SHINDY LEONG
One category to pick from:
My Neighbor Totoro is an animated fantasy movie. There are monochromatic hues which separates the character and the object. The background has both light and dark hues and high values, while a smaller part is brighter. The brighter area draws the viewers attention. Although I would say the intensity is quite strong which brings positive energy.
This also brings the rule of third, the shadows which could be lines draws the view´s eye to the composition where the character is. [2] Another example could be the golden triangle where the lines cross each other which puts the character in focus. Also, the perspective is a top view creates the frame that draws the eyes attention to the main subject.
The art made by Lilulian contains a lot of contrast and complementary colours, red and green. The green hue exaggerates the red hue which brings the focus onto the female. What also intensifies the art is the light pointing downwards which creates the leading lines, this brings the shadow and brightness together that makes the eyes draw to the main subject. This could also be the dark value surrounding the main subject. In the art the lines of the rule of thirds the rock or dress becomes the focus.
Another art made my Liluan I found amusing. I found the image had a good example of the golden triangle composition, the diagonal line seperates the sky and the ground perfectly from each other with analogous colours that blends in very well. The rock and the goblin are located in the smaller lines which leads us to Link and his horse. What also emphasize Link and his horse is the outline in the greyscale that can be seen by the shadows, especially the shaodow of the horse.
This is a sad scene from UP by Disney and Pixar. In this scene the right smaller triangle which is the window leads us to the old man, the largest lines bring the viewers eye to the main subject. The leading lines could also be the light coming through the window. For the rule of thirds, the old man is placed close to the center where most objects are located, also the greyscale marks where the viewer should pay attention to due to the higher value which creates the focal point.
The warm colours are red, pink and brown in this scene, and these hues expresses strong feelings and emotions. In this case, his wife that recently passed away explains the emotions of the old man.
I took out a couple of information from the Incredibles 2. The rule of thirds in this medium shot brings a quite energetic feeling because everyone is quite centered within the frame. Both lighting and the warm hue really emphasizes the mood in this scene. [13] The most interesting part is the leading lines that are the eyes, the children's looks at the father and the father eyes lead us to the mother. There are also other leading lines I haven´t added, it could be the ground/buildings outside or the ceiling.
In Pulp Fiction the triangular composition appears, this appears in a group mostly. In this shot it also creates depth to make us focus on the other character. However, the triangular composition in this shot builds a connection between the two actors sitting down.
The lightning from the ceiling points at the two characters sitting, it could also be the columns in the grey scale that points at the two main subjects. But I would say that the newspaper she is holding create the focal point which interest the eyes the most on the left image.
