Week 5 - Isometric & Perspective Drawing
SHINDY LEONG
SHINDY LEONG
Today's session was about isometric drawing and perspective drawing. These methods are very useful in the industry to get the dimensional drawings. This is a good way to create a "picture" due to it's a realistic drawing of the height, width and depth of an object.1 The session was very fun and I found the 3 point perspective the most difficult one, I had some difficulties getting the top/bottom part. Instead of making the 3 point perspective it ended up as a 2 point perspective, but after some practice I finally got the hang of it.

Isometric drawing
Isometric drawing consist of an objective with three dimensions, one vertical axis and two. There are plenty of isometric games, what makes it so fascinating is the fact it makes it feel so realistic. The reason is because of the 3D element on a 2D display. [9]

Perspective drawing
A perspective drawing is more realistic, there are three types of perspective projections: one-, two- and three point perspective.¹ (image below)

Orthographic view
An orthographic view consist of a plan view, elevation view and end view. Isometric drawings to show the results, but not the details. With an orthographic view it's more detailed. This is basically to view a specific view.
We started up with a warm up exercise where we drew squares and ellipses with an isometric grid underneath the paper. While sketching the isometric grid we started out with a pencil and outlined it with a pen.
The next step was to create circles and cylinders, you basically use the rectangle as a guide to give you a perspective.
Lastly, the next step was to do an isometric drawing of a fan.
The next exercise we started with perspective drawing, The image was supposed to be a 3 point perspective, but it ended up as a 2 point perspective, But as I mentioned above, I couldn't get the bottom/above part.
I did some perspective drawing at home, since I had some issues with it (3 point perspective). 1 and 2 point perspective wasn't a problem at all. It took me a while to understand the 3 point perspective and I eventually got the hang of it.
I worked on Photoshop with this taskas well, I used an isometric grid as a background and used the "Pen tool". With this tool I could create straight lines and rounded edges with it. I also noticed with this tool I could use the grids as a guide to help me get the precise curve which made it a lot easier for me. I will definitely use this method when I want to create buildings and etc.
