Different types of lines. straight, curvy, horizontal lines etc
The right image was the exercise we had, it was limited time to create the basic outlines. It was challenging at first because I had to plan where to place the lines and understand the perspective. By decreasing the time, I learnt that I had to analyze and create the basic outlines a lot quicker, and that is always something I should begin with before creating any drawings or games.
Today's lesson was about lines, pattern and texture. With the pencil or pen we can create lines with different weight and speed to create various forms. The lesson for today was to use lines to draw the cloth, we did that with a timer. Such as 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc.
When drawing the sheet, I had some issues analyzing the placement of the boxes hidden behind the fabric. After a few exercises I finally understood the basic structure of the object and began defining the value and shapes created by the sheet, as this can be used as a framework when it comes to drawing.
As example in games, before designing or selecting a game there must be some investigation. This is to learn the object and further learn the process. There are various frameworks, as there are different game genres. Another example could be investigating the environment to understand the story, culture and objectives. [1]
How to draw hands part 1 - Construction, by Nguyen, D [2]
This method worked very well for me, as it helped me understand the bone structure and understand the hand proportions so the fingers wouldn't be too short or long.
This task was to draw my hand circa 10 sketches with different timers.Drawing hands has been my weaknesses, the hand is either too thick or thin and fingers are too long or short. I looked at different hand studies and found one I thought worked better for me. I felt more confident when I had an outline to follow which gave a better result. I created a square which defines the palm, 5 lines for the fingers and horizontal circles within the finger lines to follow the direction of my fingers. Overall, I learnt that 10 seconds of drawing has made me understand how to analyze quicker and always start the base by outlining.
Top-view bedroom [4]
Top-view bedroom [5]
The second task was to draw my own room, I drew my student room from a bird’s eye view. I looked at top view bedrooms and analyzed the way it was structured. It was quite of a challenge from that perspective. I started with a vanishing point and used the orthogonal lines which is a diagonal line, that was my tool throughout the whole process. Every form would have a diagonal side to create the illusion of the bird’s perspective. The result could have been better, the lines and perspective are not exact. But the placements of the lines are a good start to learn other angles and not just the one-point perspective. As perspective drawing gives an illusion of 3D on a 2D canvas, the perspective gives the viewer a sense of realism. [3]
