Week 2 - Walk cycle

SHINDY LEONG
Looking back at week one's walk cycle I managed to adjust the movements. I adjusted the distance of the feet and the head placement to create a bit more exaggeration onto the walk cycle. I also sped up the frames as she walked quite fast and added more swing onto her arms. The mistakes I should think about next time is the head and feet placement as that really brings out the body language. Although, I'm happy with the after results as I got to go back and fix my mistakes. I think the animation walk cycle really matches the reference image.
Before (Walk cycle made in Animation Desk)
After (Walk cycle made in Toon Boom Studio 5.0)
The old lady pushing the trolley video is taken from YouTube, the camera view wasn't the best. I also used Premiere to get the individual images as well. However, I slowed down the video to get a better understanding of her movement. I found this exercise difficult, the way she walks, volume and weight. Since she is wearing quite baggy clothes it was more challenging for me. I noticed her legs didn't have as much flexibility and it was more of a stiffed legged walk, she had to sort of put her whole weight on one side to be able to lift her other leg.
Here is my attempt of a walk cycle of the old lady, I was focusing on the legs and how her upper more changes during the walk cycle. I'm quite happy with the outcome as I think the legs look quite similar to the video. Something I could have improved is when she leans forward, her upper body and arms moves forward which forces the trolley to move. If I adjusted these parts the walk cycle would have looked a lot better.
I used Toon Boom Harmony trial version, and I'm getting more familiar with the software. After doing a normal walk cycle and the old lady walk cycle, I have a much better understanding. I used to have trouble with the up and down motion, since these two poses makes a huge difference and makes the character more dynamic.
