Visual anaylsis is commonly used in Art History and addresses the terms of purpose, impact, meaning for both the artist and viewer, and context (historical and contemporary). How we approach a visual analysis (image) could be the gesture, face expression, object placement texture and size. Our eyes are drawn to the composition on the image, as we follow the different faces we go to one and another. [1]
3 POINTS OF ANALYTICAL PERSPECTIVE - Homles J, B [1]
Titian, Venus of Urbino, 1583 [2]
If we do a visual analysis of this image of Titian, Venus of Urbino, 1583. We can tell that the woman is confident and seductive, as the dog on the right is seen as loyal.
Painting by Georgia O’Keeffe [3]
If we look at this image by the artist Georgia O'Keeffe we might assume it's a vulva, waterfall and flower. The painting also contains a lot of colours which gave the impression it could be a flower. This was the first impression of the painting. As we researched the image it is a close up a flower, and there are many people who assumes it's a vulva.
“Flowers are like . . . mostly vagina. It’s true: flowers are primarily made up of sex organs and things that surround the sex organs. In fact, they have both male and female sex organs… I don’t want to burst your bubble or anything, but you kind of were painting vaginas all that time. I know that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but a flower is pretty much always a cunt.” - Susie. [3]
Aki Järvinven has identified the three graphical styles that has dominated games: photorealism, caricaturism and abstractionism. Photorealism is a way to paint but mimic other photographs. As in videogames computer graphics attempts to illustrate the reality. Photorealism can be divided into televisualism and illusionism. Televisualism mimics the camera angles as example in sports. This could be a good use for games, where they use illusionism for realistic graphics that are nonrealistic as example science fiction.
Caricaturism is a favorite, the outstanding cartoon characters. Many games are based on caricaturism, and caricaturism is linked to realism. While abstractionism is all about the structure, this could be Tetris as example. Järnvinen claims that abstractionism might reach an end due to the issues, it's hard to market. [4]
