Week 8 - Imagination
SHINDY LEONG
SHINDY LEONG
In today's session we drew characters from our imagination. I picked a few gestures from last week's life drawing, which we used for today's session. We began with a warmup were we did different exercises such as rotation, organic forms, square hatches, narrow rectangle shading, box measurement etc. A few exercises were quite pratical to understand perspective and practice your free hand drawing.

We used the gestures drawing from last week for today's session, we created skeletal frames of the gesture drawings in different poses. We created the 'stick' figures in various forms: cylinders, boxes etc. This will be our guidelines so we can have a layout. The figures could have an ectomorph, mesomorph or endomorph body type and a different height which we could decide on our own. Afterwards we would add a character role and a pose, I decided to make a farmer and a French traveler/explorer. I found this session very helpful, especially the process and understanding the human proportions while going from a tall to short human figure.
I chose the same human figure as before, this pose was quite challenging. I began doing a five point turnaround on paper and then digitally where I imported the left image into photoshop to get cleaner edges and lines. Drawing the front, back and side wasn't difficult, the difficult part was the back 3/4. It took me a while to draw and figure out the turnarounds, however I will have to practice on turnaround more often. The turnaround made me practice my eyes to look from different perspectives.
