8. Did You Know? - About the Royal Family

The Woodlandia monarchy and its royal family can trace its history and origin back to the unification and founding of the Principality of Woodlandia, courtesy of Woodlandia's first Sovereign ruler and Prince, Shawn of the Stoner dynasty. With the introduction of the Woodlandia Law of Succession Act of 2019, the legal framework established that only one monarch and one royal family was, through succession allowed to rule.

On 26 June 2017, on his 30th birthday, Prince Shawn was proclaimed His Majesty, King Shawn of the Kingdom of Ardania, after his mother, Queen of Ardania and of Mull, abdicated the Ardanian in favour of him.

As King of Ardania, Prince Shawn reigned for nearly two years, until 12 March 2019, when he officially created the Principality of Woodlandia by the act of amalgamating the Kingdom of Ardania and its surrounding lands to form the Principality of Woodlandia. He then proclaimed himself the first Hereditary Sovereign Prince of the Principality of Woodlandia.

Upon declaring independence of Woodlandia in 2019, HRH Prince Shawn agreed to allow Ardania to remain a dormant monarchy, but include it with the Principality of Woodlandia as one of its three boroughs. It is the first King of Ardania, King Kenneth's descendants that today make up the current royal house of Stoner and the royal family of Woodlandia.

Through bloodline, marriages, and historical alliances, the Woodlandia royal family is closely related to the Mull and Ardania royal families, as well as distantly related to the royal family of the United Kingdom and other royal houses.

The current Sovereign Prince of the Principality of Woodlandia (Prince Shawn) descends from the two kingdoms of Ardania and Mull. Both states belonging to the House of Stoner and precede the Woodlandia throne.

2. House of STONER

House of STONER

The The Woodlandia Royal Family House of Stoner is the family which reigns by constitutional, hereditary right over the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia and comprises Sovereign Prince Shawn and his close relations. There is no strict legal or formal definition of who is or is not a member of the Woodlandia royal family.

Those who at the time are entitled to the style His or Her Royal Highness (HRH), and any styled His or Her Majesty (HM), are normally considered members, including those so styled before the beginning of the current monarch's reign. By this criterion, a list of the current royal family will usually include the monarch, the children and male-line grandchildren of the monarch and previous monarchs, and all of their current or widowed spouses.

The name of the royal house is Stoner, and has been since 1999, when King Kenneth of Ardania was proclaimed as King. Members of the royal family have belonged, either by birth or by marriage, to the House of Stoner. Senior titled members of the royal family do not usually use a surname, although incorporating a family surname with the royal house surname of Stoner, has been prescribed as a surname for direct descendants who do not have royal styles and titles, and it has sometimes been used when required for those who do have such titles. The royal family are regarded as Woodlandia cultural icons, with young adults from abroad naming the family among a group of people who they most associated with Woodlandia culture.

Some members of the royal family have official residences named as the places from which announcements are made about official engagements they have carried out. The state duties and staff of some members of the royal family are funded from a parliamentary annuity, the amount of which is fully refunded by the Prince to the Treasury.

4. Public Role

The Woodlandia royal family support HRH Prince Shawn in his state and national duties. Each year the family "carries out numerous official engagements throughout the the Principality of Woodlandia and worldwide". Engagements include state funerals, national festivities, garden parties, receptions, and royal tours and visits.

Some members of the royal family have started their own individual charities.

5. Line of Succession to the Woodlandia Throne

The line of succession to the Woodlandia throne is the order in which members of the royal family would resume position of the throne if the reigning Prince or Princess died.

Traditionally, males rank ahead of females in the line of succession. When a reigning monarch's family line becomes extinct, succession continues to the oldest living senior male, through the most senior line of the monarch.

As sovereign, HRH Prince Shawn is expected to produce an heir. With no current children to pass the throne to as his heirs, his next heir apparent is his younger sisters child and only nephew, Prince Max of Mull. Next in line is Max's mother Brittany, the Princess Royal of Mull (Prince Shawn's sister). Third in line is Prince Max's sister, Princess Jennie of Mull, the eldest child of Brittany; but only until her 21st birthday, at which time she will become the first Princess Royal of Woodlandia (providing no future heirs are produced), and switch places with her mother in the line of succession. Fourth in line is Aidan, a first cousin of Prince Shawn, and the eldest son of the Prince's twin aunt Kimberly, Princess of Ardania (younger sister to his mother). Next in line after Aidan is his brother (and Prince Shawn's first cousin) Averick, the youngest son of his mother's twin sister Kimberly (Prince Shawn's aunt). Under the Royal Succession Act, only the first three in line of succession require the sovereign's consent before they marry; without such consent, they and their children would be disqualified from succession.

No official, complete version of the line of succession is currently maintained. Any person's actual position in the line of succession may change when people are born or when they die. This list shows only those people who are descended from the children of King Kenneth of Ardania (maternal grandfather of Sovereign Prince Shawn), or the children of King Kenneth in line of succession.
