1. History of Mutual Recognition
The Principality of Woodlandia has established treaties of mutual recognition with nations from around the world since March 2019, shortly after establishing its claim of independence. All foreign relations, including treaties and foreign trade are overlooked by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to 2021, all diplomatic communication was through direct messaging and email. Sometime in February 2021, the Principality of Woodlandia decided to change government policy and publicly post diplomatic relations between the Principality and other nations through social media. On 15 February 2021, the Principality of Woodlandia posted for the first time, diplomatic recognition between the Principality of Woodlandia and the Principality of Lorenzburg on Facebook & Twitter.
On January 12, 2022, the Principality of Woodlandia adopted the nation of the (Second) Republic of New Atlantis as their first overseas dominion. In Woodlandia, a nation is automatically recognized with a Treaty of Mutual Recognition upon becoming a dominion or territory, usually falling on the same day as adoption.

2. Granting Mutual Recognition
Diplomatic foreign relations are implemented by the Woodlandia Foreign Affairs Office, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Power to grant official diplomatic recognition lies primarily with the Sovereign Prince and occasionally the Prime Minister with sovereign approval. Both can also grant recognition through a diplomatic treaty.
The Principality of Woodlandia follows a government policy which outlines the rules for responding to foreign nations that are seeking mutual recognition with the Principality of Woodlandia. Therefore, the Principality of Woodlandia will only sign treaties with other micronations who share a similar foreign policy.
Nations that contact the Principality of Woodlandia for diplomatic relations, are required to meet the following criteria:
The requesting nation must be in existence for at least 1 year(s). In addition, the nation must not have drastically changed their government structure within the past year from the time of the request.
The nation must have a website with clear and truthful information (territory, goals, population,).
The nations land claim must physically exist and contain physical land. Nations with a fictional history, population or claims on virtual maps or imaginary worlds, such as in a book or on the internet will not be considered for recognition. However, there are few exceptions.
The Principality of Woodlandia is a peace loving nation and will not engage in diplomacy with micronations that declare wars of any kind.
Be professional and always represent your nation and your allies. Any nation that acts in an immature, unprofessional or disrespectful manner about the Principality of Woodlandia or its allied nations will not be approved.
Starting January 2022, all nations that sign an Official Treaty of Mutual Recognition with Woodlandia must agree to Woodlandia Currency Recognition (this means official recognition and use of the Woodlandia shirley throughout their nation).

Since claiming independence in 2019, the Principality of Woodlandia has signed mutual treaties of recognition with 37 nations from around the world. When a treaty of mutual recognition is established by the signing of two or more nations, all nations signed to the treaty agree to the terms of the treaty and officially recognize each other independently.
