1. History

Formation

The Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard (R.K.W.G.) was established on August 21, 2019 by His Royal Highness Sovereign Prince Shawn of the Principality of Woodlandia, after a series of events took place, known as the 2019 Woodlandia Treason Plot, had presented a serious safety issues for the Sovereign.

3. Grand Knight

The Woodlandia Grand Knight is responsible for the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard and is always the current reigning monarch, known as His Excellency, Grand Knight of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard

On 21 August 2019, after a series of events took place, known as the 2019 Woodlandia Treason Plot, Prince Shawn had taken the title of Grand Knight and passed the Royal Knights of Woodlandia Act 2019, stating every Grand Knight of Woodlandia is, by law, always the current reigning monarch. Since then, the Grand Knight has not only been the Sovereign, but also the sole moderator of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard above the Captain of the Guard.

4. Office of the Grand Knight

The Office of the Grand Knight was created on 21 August 2019 by HRH Sovereign Prince Shawn after a series of attacks on the prince took place, known as the 2019 Woodlandia Treason Plot required immediate action of authority. Additionally, on the same day, 21 August 2019, the Woodlandia Ministry of Justice was also established.

The Office of the Grand Knight is responsible for providing the Grand Knight and his infantry and cavalry soldiers with essential strategic advice and analysis to help with guarding The Prince, members of the royal family, and the official royal residences.

The Grand Knight maintains a permanent office at the Wallace Government House in Freedom, Woodlandia. The Grand Knight's office is shared with the office of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard Home Base.

5. Guard Rank

The Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard or the Royal Knighted Guards are the names given to contingents of infantry, cavalry, and artillery soldiers charged with guarding the members of the royal family, the official royal residences, and the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Guards are fully operational soldiers. 

There are a total of five types of guards in the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard. The first three guard types are divided into classes according to rank, the Prince's Guard 1st Class, the Palace Guard 2nd Class, and the Principality Guard 3rd Class. Each class is held in command by a Guard Commander who is the Captain of the Guard. The remaining two types of guard are consist of a Reserve Branch and a Cadet Branch. Each branch is held in command by a Guard Commander who is the Captain of the Guard.

*RK-Guard Commander - The Captain of the Guard is the name given to the leaders of each of the guard class and the additional branches, according to their rank in Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard.

RK-First Class - The Prince's Guard (called Princess's Guard when the reigning monarch is female) is the name given to contingents of infantry, cavalry, and artillery soldiers charged with guarding the members of the royal family of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Guards are fully operational soldiers.

RK-Second Class - The Palace Guard is the name given to contingents of infantry and cavalry soldiers charged with guarding the official royal residences of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Guards are fully operational soldiers. 

RK-Third Class - The Principality Guard is the name given to contingents of infantry and artillery soldiers charged with guarding the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Guards are fully operational soldiers. 

RK-Reserve - The Reserve Guard is the name given to contingents of infantry, cavalry, and artillery soldiers charged with guarding the members of the royal family, the official royal residences, and/or the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Guards are fully operational soldiers when commissioned for service.

RK-Cadet - The Cadet Guard is the name given to contingents of infantry, cavalry, and artillery soldiers trained with guarding the members of the royal family, the official royal residences, or the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Cadets are new soldiers in training.

6. Operating Area



The Prince's Guard

The Prince's Guard are fully operational soldiers. 

The Prince's Guard are stationed at the royal residences that come under the operating area of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard via the Woodlandia Army, which is responsible for the administration of the Household Division (most elite or senior units). This covers Stoner Castle and Liberty Castle (including Le Petit Châteaux). The Prince's Guard is also stationed at the sovereign's other official residence while performing duties, the Wallace Government House. The Prince's Guard are not stationed at the Prince's private residences at the Royal Freedom Suite, the Cabin or Olympia Villino.

The Prince's Guard is the name given to the contingent of cavalry, artillery, and infantry responsible for guarding the members of the royal family while in residence at Stoner Castle and Liberty Castle (including Le Petit Châteaux). The guard is made up of a company of soldiers from a single regiment, which is split in two, providing a detachment for Stoner Castle and a detachment for Liberty Castle. Because the Sovereign's official residence is Stoner Castle, the guard commander (called the captain of the guard) is based there, as are the regiment's colours. When the Sovereign is in residence, the Prince's Guard numbers two officers and other ranks, with four sentries each posted at Stoner Castle (on the forecourt) and Liberty Castle (two in Liberty Square, two at the entrance to Le Petit Châteaux). This reduces, when the Sovereign is not in residence. The Prince's Guard is not purely ceremonial in nature. They provide sentries during the day and night, and during the later hours, they patrol the grounds of the Castle. The sentries at Stoner Castle were stationed outside the fence, but due to the continued pestering by tourists and sightseers upon the the guardsman, the sentries were moved inside the fence. 

The Palace Guard 

The Palace Guard are fully operational soldiers. 

The Palace Guard are stationed at the royal residences that come under the operating area of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard via the Woodlandia Army, which is responsible for the administration of the Household Division (most elite or senior units). This covers Stoner Castle and Liberty Castle (including Le Petit Châteaux). The Palace Guard is also stationed at the sovereign's other official residence while performing duties, the Wallace Government House. The Palace Guard are not stationed at the Prince's private residences at the Royal Freedom Suite, the Cabin or Olympia Villino.

This covers Stoner Castle and Liberty Castle (including Le Petit Châteaux). The Palace Guard is also stationed at the sovereign's other official residence while performing duties, the Wallace Government House. The Palace Guard are not stationed at the Prince's private residences at the Royal Freedom Suite, the Cabin or Olympia Villino.

The Principality Guard is the name given to the contingent of artillery and infantry responsible for guarding the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia. The guard is made up of a company of soldiers from a single regiment, which is split in three, providing a detachment for Freedom, a detachment for Liberty, and a detachment for Olympia. Because the Sovereign's official residence is Stoner Castle, the guard commander (called the captain of the guard) is based there, as are the regiment's colours. When the Sovereign is in residence in either district, the Principality Guard numbers two officers and other ranks with sentries posted at the occupied area. The guard is reduced when the Sovereign is not in residence. The Principality Guard is not purely ceremonial in nature. They provide sentries during the day and night, and during the later hours, they patrol the grounds of the royal residences

The Reserve Guard

The Reserve Guards are fully operational soldiers when commissioned for operational service.

During training, the Reserve Guards are stationed at the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard headquarters, via the Woodlandia Army, which is responsible for the administration of the Household Division (most elite or senior units). When commissioned for service, the Reserve Guards are stationed at the sovereign's official residence. When requested by the sovereign, the Reserve Guards can be stationed at the Prince's private residences at the Royal Freedom Suite, the Cabin or Olympia Villino.

The Reserve Guards is the name given to the contingent of cavalry, artillery, and infantry responsible for guarding the members of the royal family, the official royal residences (Stoner Castle and Liberty Castle and Le Petit Châteaux), and/or the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia when commissioned for service. The guard is made up of a company of soldiers from a each regiment. Because the Sovereign's official residence is Stoner Castle, the guard commander (called the captain of the guard) is based there, as are the regiment's colours. The Cadet Guard 

The Cadets are new soldiers in training.

During training, the Cadets are stationed at the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard headquarters, via the Woodlandia Army, which is responsible for the administration of the Household Division (most elite or senior units). When commissioned for service, the Cadet Guards are stationed at the sovereign's official residence. When requested by the sovereign, the Cadets can be stationed at the Prince's private residences at the Royal Freedom Suite, the Cabin or Olympia Villino.

The Cadet Guards is the name given to the contingent of cavalry, artillery, and infantry responsible for guarding the members of the royal family, the official royal residences (Stoner Castle and Liberty Castle and Le Petit Châteaux), and/or the nation of the Principality of Woodlandia when commissioned for service. The guard is made up of a company of soldiers from a each regiment, which is split into groups for training. Because the Sovereign's official residence is Stoner Castle, the guard commander (called the captain of the guard) is based there, as are the regiment's colours. The Reserve Guards is not purely ceremonial in nature. When commissioned for operational service, the Reserve Guards are placed into their respective class and operate like full time guards.

7. Uniforms

The Royal Knights consist of each Guards wearing full-dress uniform according to rank. From a distance the full dress uniforms worn by the men of the five Guard Ranks look nearly identical, but slightly differ in various details. The uniforms of the Grand Knight and the Guard Commander are individual according to their ranks.

Ceremonial Robes of the Woodlandia Grand Knight

The official Ceremonial Robes of the Woodlandia Grand Knight have been worn since the creation of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard. The tradition of wearing the costume by the sovereign was originally established for the now dormant Kingdom of Ardania, known today as the Duchy of Liberty or Borough 1 of 3 that make up the Principality of Woodlandia.

8. Recruitment

Although the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard primarily recruits within the Principality of Woodlandia, it accepts applications from friendly nations who meet certain criteria. The Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard is an equal-opportunity employer (with some exceptions due to its medical standards), and does not discriminate based on race, religion or sexual orientation.

The minimum recruitment age is 16, although soldiers under 18 may not serve in operations. The maximum recruitment age is 35 years and 6 months. The maximum age for Reserve Knights is 49 years old, as of 2022, with the minimum age is 16. The minimum recruitment age for a cadet is 13, with the maximum age capped at 16. A soldier would traditionally enlist for a term of 10 years, although recently there has been a shift towards 5-year terms with a 10-year option. A soldier is not normally permitted to leave until they have served for at least two years, and must give 6 months' notice.

9. Oath of Allegiance

Oath of Allegiance

All soldiers and commissioned officers must take an oath of allegiance upon joining the Guard, a process known as attestation. Those who wish to swear by God use the following words:

I, [soldier's or commissioned officer's name], swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Royal Highness Sovereign Prince Shawn, his heirs and successors and that I will as in duty bound honestly and faithfully defend His Royal Highness, his heirs and successors in person, crown and dignity against all enemies and will observe and obey all orders of His Royal Highness, his heirs, and successors and of the generals and officers set over me.

Others replace the words "swear by Almighty God" with "solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm".

10. Oath of Brotherhood

All soldiers and commissioned officers must take an oath of brotherhood before joining the Household Division (most elite or senior unit) of the Guard, a process known as attestation. Those who swear the oath use the following words:

I, [soldier's or commissioned officer's name], solemnly swear true devotion of brotherhood to His Royal Highness Sovereign Prince Shawn, and that I will as in duty bound honestly and faithfully defend His Royal Highness, in dignity against all enemies and will observe and obey all orders of His Royal Highness, set over me. Brother to brother, yours in life and death.

11. Personal Coat of Arms

The Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard Personal Coat of Arms was created for use, exclusively by members of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard, and to establish identity of power throughout Woodlandia.

History

The design of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard's personal coat of arms was created on August 17, 2021 by HRH Prince Shawn of Woodlandia. The coat of arms, along with the official Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard flag (created 2 days prior), were donated to the Royal Guards by The Prince for the second anniversary of the formation Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard.

Grant of Arms

Upon completion of swearing the Oath of Allegiance during the Knighting ceremony, every member of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard receives the honorary title of "Sir", as an official Knight of the Sovereign.

Additionally, Woodlandia Royal Knights are granted use of individual personalized coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard.

Use

The individual personal coat of arms for the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard are part of a system of hereditary symbols used primarily to establish identity in battle.

Crest

Use - The red ostrich plume crest is used in the individual personal coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard and is located at the top of the helmet.

Colour - Red

Meaning - The red ostrich plume, symbolizes the freedom and the liberty of the guard to patrol the Principality of Woodlandia.


Escutcheon

Use - The escutcheon is used in individual personal coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard and is located roughly in the center of the coat of arms. 

Colour - Blue, Red, Gold, White, Blue, Yellow, Black, Orange

Meaning - The escutcheon is used to represent collective symbols meaningful to the Royal Knights of Woodlandia such as, a medieval jousting knight on horseback representing the borough of Liberty (top left), a flaming torch representing the borough of Olympia (bottom right), a crown representing the monarchy (top right), and a castle representing the borough of Freedom, and the nation of Woodlandia as a whole.


Helmet

Use - A knights armored helmet with a feathered ostrich plume is used in the individual personal coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard is located at the top of the coat of arms.

Colour - Silver, Red

Meaning - The armored helmet of a Royal Woodlandia Knight, symbolizing the loyalty and devotion a Knight has for a monarch, and their responsibility to the people of Woodlandia.


Mantling

Use - The green thistle leafy mantling is used in the individual personal coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard and is located around the base of the helmet, and on top of the escutcheon.

Colour - Green

Meaning - The mantling represents the Scottish thistle.


Motto

Use - The Latin words "Et Patria Coronom Servientes" are used in the individual personal coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard for its motto. The words are printed in black across an open gold cross with red trim. The cross is located across the middle of the compartment.

Colour - Gold, Black, Red

Meaning - Serving Crown and Country (Latin: Et Patria Coronom Servientes) means that the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard have taken an oath to protect and serve the Woodlandia royal family and citizens of Woodlandia with honour.


Torse

Use - The torse in the form of a chain is used in the individual personal coat of arms of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard and is located above the crest and below the helmet.

Colour - Pale Gold

Meaning - The pale gold colour on the torse represents the privileges of the Royal Guards, and its position of Woodlandia hierarchy, compared to a gold colour representation for the monarchy. The pale gold chain represents the power and commitment to the monarchy and the crown, and its people.

12. Flags & Ensigns

The official flag of the Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard was designed on August 15, 2021 by HRH Prince Shawn of Woodlandia. The flag, along with the official Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard personal coat of arms (created 2 days after), were given to the Royal Guards by The Prince for the second anniversary of the formation Royal Knights of the Woodlandia Guard.

The flag is used to display the presence of the Royal guard at a permanent designated post.
