Etymology

The word 'Ardania' derives from Arcadia (Greek: Ἀρκαδία) a region in the central Peloponnesea regional district in modern Greece. It takes its name from the mythological character Arcas, and in Greek mythology it was the home of the god Pan. During the European Renaissance, Arcadia was celebrated as an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness, fittingly similar to the reputation of the Principality of Woodlandia.

Royal Family

Ardania's first royal family consisted of King Kenneth, his wife Queen of Mull Shirley, their daughter Princess Royal Tracy and their son Prince Derek (future King of Ardania).

On 26 June 2017, on his 30th birthday, Prince Shawn was proclaimed His Majesty King Shawn of the Kingdom of Ardania, after his mother Queen of Ardania and of Mull Tracy abdicated the Ardanian throne in favour of him.

Principality of Woodlandia

As King of Ardania, Prince Shawn reigned for nearly two years, until 12 March 2019, when he officially created the Principality of Woodlandia by the act of amalgamating the Kingdom of Ardania and its surrounding lands to form the Principality of Woodlandia. He then proclaimed himself the first Hereditary Sovereign Prince of the Principality of Woodlandia.

Dormancy

When declaring independence of Woodlandia on March 12, 2019, HRH Prince Shawn agreed to allow Ardania to remain a dormant monarchy, but downgraded it to a Dukedom (Duchy) on the same day.

Dukedom of Liberty (Duchy of Liberty)

Upon becoming a Dukedom, Prince Shawn had changed Ardania's name to Liberty, and it was from that point on known as the Dukedom or Duchy of Liberty. On the same day, he passed the Nobility Act 2019, stating that every Duke and Duchess of Liberty must be a member of the royal family, and furthermore, an immediate family member of the current reigning Sovereign Prince or Princess or reserve the title for him/herself. The Prince gave this title to his mother Tracy, Queen of Mull and former Queen of Ardania as a respectable downgrade to her title.

Borough of Woodlandia

On June 26, 2019, the Dukedom of Liberty was officially declared as one of the Principality of Woodlandia's three boroughs, after a third land claim, the Earldom of Olympia, was created and amalgamated to form the complete and current nation.

The town theme of 'Liberty (formerly Ardania)' is centered around the Middle Ages (Medieval Times) with Medieval Arthurian English influences, including architecture, culture, government and religion of the era.

Ardania & Video Game

Ardania is a medieval fantasy world, first introduced in Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim, a real-time strategy computer video game in which, players assume the role of king in a fantasy realm called Ardania, a magical realm populated by elves, gnomes, dwarves and various monsters, as well as humans. As Sovereign, the player must rely on hiring bands of wandering heroes in order to get anything done. Henchmen are free non-hero characters essential to maintaining the realm. Peasants construct and repair buildings. Tax collectors collect gold from guilds and houses to finance the realm. Guards provide defense against monsters. Caravans travel from trading posts to the marketplace, where they deliver gold based on the distance they traveled.

The game is strikingly similar to the geography, structure, government, culture, and foundation of the Kingdom of Ardania (currently the Dukedom of Liberty), even though the Kingdom of Ardania was established in 1999, well before the games release of March 21, 2000. One such obvious example is that the Kingdom of Ardania, like Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim, is centered around/takes place during the Middle Ages (Medieval Times). Another example, are the similarities between formation of the two Ardania's. At the start of Majesty, Ardania is a fragmented realm with many kingdoms, but the entire continent is gradually unified by the sovereign, much like Woodlandia. In the game, the lands of Ardania are divided into two main halves and a third area. The Central Plains and the Northern Reaches, separated by a mountain range (third), while similarly, the surrounding lands of the non-fictional Kingdom of Ardania were joined with the Kingdom to form two separate boroughs of the original Principality of Woodlandia, and later, a (third) borough was added.

An expansion game, Majesty: The Northern Expansion, features twelve new single player scenarios, monsters, new unit abilities, and new buildings for expanding the players empire and was released on March 2001. Although it wouldn't happen until years later, this eerily mimics the expansion of the Kingdom of Ardania (later the Dukedom of Liberty), with the Dukedom of Freedom, and the Earldom of Olympia, to form the current nation of the Principality of Woodlandia. The lands of Ardania in Majesty: The Northern Expansion, seem to draw parallels of its game-play expansion with that of the real world Kingdom of Ardania's expansion of forming the Principality of Woodlandia, (located in what was once Northern Ontario, Canada), and therefore a literal "Northern expansion".

5. Did You Know? - Liberty

Although Liberty is a borough of Woodlandia, it is also a Dukedom or Duchy.
At the beginning of its history, Liberty was once the Kingdom of Ardania.
Liberty was the first territory to be amalgamated into a Woodlandia borough.
The last Princess Royal of the Kingdom of Ardania, Brittany (HRH Prince Shawn's sister) is often referred to as "Lady Liberty", due to the fact that her mother, Queen Tracy of Mull is the Duchess of Liberty.
