1. History

The Office of the Lord Justice was created on 21 August 2019 by HRH Sovereign Prince Shawn after a series of events took place, known as the 2019 Woodlandia Treason Plot required immediate action of authority. Prince Shawn had taken the title and delivered the first court judgement in Woodlandia. Since then, the Lord Justice has been the sole administer of justice throughout the Principality.

Additionally, on the same day, 21 August 2019, the Woodlandia Ministry of Justice was also established. Both the Lord Justice and the Ministry work closely together.

2 . Term of Office

The Woodlandia Lord Justice serves at His/Her Royal Highness's pleasure, meaning the post does not have a fixed term. Once appointed and sworn in by the prince or princess, the Lord Justice remains in office until he or she resigns, is dismissed, or dies. The lifespan of parliament is limited by the constitution for life.

3 . Duties

The Lord Justice is responsible for anything to do with Woodlandia Law, and litigates on behalf of the Crown, serving as the Chief Legal Advisor to the Government of Woodlandia above the Ministry of Justice.

4 . Titles, Styles, Honours and Arms

The Woodlandia Lord/Lady Justice is styled as His/Her Excellency, a privilege maintained for life. A former Lord Justice retains the prefix His/Her Excellency for the remainder of their lives. Parliament continues the tradition of using the title Lord/lady Justice when one is speaking to the head of government directly; the Royal Woodlandia Historical Society advises that it is incorrect to use the term Mr./Mrs/Miss Justice, except for Lord/Lady or Madame. The written form of address for the Lord/Lady Justice should use his or her full parliamentary title: His/Her Excellency [name], [post-nominal letters], Lord/Lady Justice of Woodlandia. However, while in government, other members of parliament may address the Lord/Lady Justice as the His/Her Excellency Lord Justice.

In Woodlandia it is often considered traditional for the monarch to bestow a lord/ladyship on a newly-appointed Woodlandia Lord/Lady Justice. Accordingly, after the honour of lord/ladyship is bestowed, a Woodlandia Lord/Lady Justice carries the prefix Lord/Lady before their name.

5 . Privileges

The Lord Justice is afforded an office at the Woodlandia Courthouse in Olympia, Woodlandia as well as an official mailing address to the Office of the Lord Justice at Wallace Government House, courtesy of the Ministry of Justice Office in Freedom, Woodlandia. For transportation, the Lord Justice is granted a vehicle for use during domestic trips. All of the aforementioned is supplied through budgets approved by parliament, as the Lord Justice total annual compensation of WAS$?. The Lord Justice total compensation includes the Lord Justice Travel Allowance of WAS$?.

Should a serving or former Lord Justice die, he or she is accorded a state funeral, wherein their casket lies in state, and a state memorial is thrown in his/her honour.

6 . Royal Privy Council

As a senior member of His/Her Royal Highness's government, the Lord Justice is automatically a member of the Royal Privy Council once signed and sworn into office.
