Woodlandia Social Council

The Woodlandia Social Council is responsible for designating specific days, weeks, years and decades as occasions to mark particular events or topics in order to promote, through awareness and action, the objectives of the Organization.

The Woodlandia Social Council was established on March 13th, 2020, one day after Woodlandia's one year anniversary. Originally, the council consisted of just the Prince and his Prime Minister. Since its establishment, the number of council members has grown to eight. Current social council members include Woodlandia citizens, the Prince and the Prime Minister.

2. Woodlandia Social Council

It is the belief of the Woodlandia Social Council that Woodlandia citizens should have a say as to when specific days, weeks, years and decades should be created, including on what month and day, for celebration by Woodlandia citizens. This is the reason why citizens are allowed to join the council. The Woodlandia Social Council consists of eight individuals; six Woodlandia citizens and two government officials (the prince and the prime minister).

On occasion, potential observances or celebrations are declared by specialized agencies adopted by the Woodlandia Social Council when they concern issues that fall within the scope of their competencies.

3. Designation

Once the Woodlandia Social Council receives potential observances requests for specific days, weeks, years and decades as occasions, members propose these observances, the council votes, and the observance is established. Voting is done by majority rule. If there is a tie, the Prince breaks the tie and decides the ultimate outcome.

In total, the Woodlandia Social Council has collectively designated 16 assorted holidays for calendar year (12 months) in the Principality of Woodlandia. See Woodlandia Holidays

4. Objective

The Woodlandia Social Council's main objective is to mark particular events or topics in order to promote, through awareness and action, the objectives of the Organization. The social councils secondary objective is to promote Woodlandia Civic Engagement.

Each year, the Woodlandia Social Council chooses what the International year of...is going to be, then works closely with the Woodlandia government to fulfill its chosen objective for that year.

5. Civic Engagement

It is the responsibility of the Woodlandia Social Council to promote Woodlandia Civic Engagement and to attract Woodlandia citizens to participate.

Civic engagement or civic participation is any individual or group activity addressing issues of public concern.Civic engagement includes the community working together or individuals working alone in both political and non-political actions to protect public values or make a change in the community. The goal of civic engagement is to address public concerns and promote the quality of the community.

6. International Years

International years are designated to a specific cause that needs Woodlandia government attention and that effects Woodlandia citizens positively or negatively. Potential causes are decided through statistics and research carried out by members of the Woodlandia Social Council, and the cause is chosen to be worked on for one full calendar year with the cooperation of the Woodlandia government.

Each year on November 15th, the Woodlandia Social Council announces what the International year of...is going to be for the following year. Although the new cause is announced mid November, work for a new cause runs from January 1st to December 31st.
