## 1. Introduction
Homeschool Record Keeper ("we", "our", "the app") is an offline-first record-keeping tool for homeschooling parents. It lets you log lessons, track attendance and instruction hours against your state or region's requirements, record grades, collect a portfolio of student work, and export transcript, attendance, and portfolio PDFs.
Homeschool Record Keeper is a record-keeping tool only. It is **not** legal or educational advice, is **not** an accredited transcript service, and is **not** affiliated with any government body or education authority.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the app. By using Homeschool Record Keeper, you agree to the practices described here.
## 2. Information We Collect
### 2.1 Information You Provide
All of the following is information **you** enter into the app about your homeschool and your children. It is stored locally on your device (see Section 4):
- **Child / student details** — names or initials, date of birth or age, grade level, and school year
- **Academic records** — subjects, lesson logs and descriptions, instruction hours, attendance days, grades and assessment scores
- **Compliance settings** — your state/region and its instruction-hour or attendance requirements
- **Portfolio content** — notes and photos of student work that you choose to add
- **Notes** — any free-text notes you enter
### 2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- **Device and diagnostic information** (device model, operating system version, app version, and crash-related state) for crash reporting and stability
- **App usage analytics** (which screens and features are used) to improve the app
- **Advertising identifiers** used by Google AdMob to serve ads on the free tier
### 2.3 Information from Third-Party Services
The app does **not** use any sign-in or social login. We do not collect an email address, contact list, or account profile from any third-party identity provider.
## 3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the app's core functionality — logging lessons, tracking attendance and instruction hours, recording grades, and building a portfolio
- Calculate compliance progress against the requirements you configure
- Generate transcript, attendance, and portfolio PDF documents that you export
- Send you reminders and notifications (for example, lesson or attendance reminders)
- Display advertisements to users on the free tier
- Diagnose crashes and improve app performance and reliability
- Process subscription and one-time purchases through Google Play
## 4. Data Storage and Security
### 4.1 Local, On-Device Storage
Homeschool Record Keeper is **offline-first**. All of the homeschool records you enter — children, lessons, attendance, grades, compliance settings, and portfolio photos — are stored **locally on your device** in a private app database and in the app's private internal storage. This data is **not** uploaded to our servers or synced to any cloud account.
The app does not provide cloud backup or cross-device sync. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, your records are permanently removed from the device.
### 4.2 Security Measures
- Your records are stored in the app's private storage area, which is not accessible to other apps on the device
- All network communication used for advertising, analytics, and crash reporting uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Because your homeschool records stay on your device, they are not exposed to any server operated by us
## 5. Data Sharing
### 5.1 We Do NOT Sell Your Data
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information — or your children's information — to third parties. The homeschool records you enter are never shared with advertisers, analytics providers, or any other third party.
### 5.2 Third-Party Services
The app includes the following third-party services, which may collect limited technical and usage data as described:
| Service | Purpose | Data Accessed | Privacy Policy |
|---------|---------|---------------|----------------|
| Google AdMob | Advertising (free tier) | Advertising identifier, device information, ad interactions | [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) |
| Firebase Analytics | App usage insights | Usage patterns, device information | [Firebase Privacy](https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy) |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reporting | Crash logs, device state, diagnostics | [Firebase Privacy](https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy) |
| Google Play Billing | Subscriptions and purchases | Purchase and subscription status | [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) |
These services do **not** receive your homeschool records (children's names, grades, lessons, attendance, or portfolio content).
### 5.3 Ad Personalization
- Free-tier users see advertisements served by Google AdMob
- AdMob may use device identifiers and technical data to personalize ads
- You can opt out of personalized ads through your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads)
- Premium (subscription or lifetime) users see **no advertisements**
### 5.4 Documents You Export and Share
When you export a transcript, attendance report, or portfolio PDF, the document is created on your device. If you then choose to share it (for example, by email or another app), you control where it goes. We are not involved in and do not receive those shared documents.
## 6. Portfolio Photos and Images
- Photos are captured or selected only when you explicitly choose to add them to a portfolio entry
- Photos are stored in the app's private internal storage on your device
- Photos are never uploaded to us, shared with third parties, or used for advertising
- You can delete any photo at any time from within the app
- The app captures photos by launching your device's camera app through the system; it does not require a standalone camera permission
## 7. Children's Information
Homeschool Record Keeper is designed for use by **parents and guardians** (adults), not by children. The app is not directed to children, and children are not the intended users.
The records you keep may describe your children (for example, a child's name, age, grades, and samples of their schoolwork). This information about your children is entered **by you** and is stored **only on your device**. It is not transmitted to us, not synced to any cloud, and not shared with advertisers or any third party. You remain in full control of this information and can edit or delete it at any time.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has used the app to provide information directly to us, contact us and we will address it promptly.
## 8. Your Rights and Choices
### 8.1 Access and Control
- You can view all your data within the app at any time
- You can edit or delete any record you have entered
- You can export your data as PDF documents for your own records
### 8.2 Data Deletion
- Deleting a record within the app removes it from your device
- Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in your device settings, permanently removes all locally stored records and photos
- Because we do not store your records on any server, there is no cloud copy for us to delete
### 8.3 Notifications
- You can disable reminders and notifications at any time through the app's Settings or your device's notification settings
### 8.4 Ad Preferences
- Upgrading to Premium removes all advertisements
- You can opt out of personalized ads via your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads)
## 9. GDPR Compliance (European Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have rights including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Because your homeschool records are stored only on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the app (viewing, editing, exporting, and deleting your data).
The app uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain your consent for advertising and related data processing in compliance with GDPR. To exercise any of your rights or ask questions, contact us at muhammadilyas15@gmail.com.
## 10. Data Retention
- Records you enter are retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app
- Analytics data is retained per Google's standard retention policies
- Crash reports are retained per Firebase Crashlytics' standard retention period
## 11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy and posting a notice within the app. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
