LOOK AT THIS FACE! Kakuro is the one of the cutest tabbies I've ever seen, in looks and personality. She's the most independent of her litter- willing to explore on her own. But she also loves kitten and human cuddle piles. Kakuro accepted my house pets the most gracefully- cautious, but not intimidated. She observed, recognized they were *mostly* harmless, and then went about her business.
So far, no one outside my family has known what Kakuro is, so here is a tiny example. Similar to Sodoku, you fill it in with #1-9, but with no repeating numbers in a horizontal or vertical section. It's my favorite paper/pencil puzzle. When we were naming kittens, I thought it was the perfect name to match her analytical, logical nature.

Kakuro is still the most independent during play- but she's become quite attached to humans in the past few weeks as well. She'll come for love and rubs and loves to sleep nearby.
But she'll abandon a nap for play or treats every time. She seems to have unlimited energy for jumping and pouncing- favoring interactive fishing wand toys or feather wands.
Kakuro was with us when my husband got the birthday present of his dreams... a brand new CAT WHEEL! I.... I mean, my husband... eyed this thing for several years, but the price tag is pretty big and it never seemed *neccessary*, so I just couldn't justify it. But this June, I convinced... *ahem* correction: discovered that my hubby's one true wish for birthday joy was to watch kittens spin, I immediately jumped into action, because I'm a good, loving wife.
I figured it would take some time to train the kittens to use it- but Kakuro was instantly intrigued and jumped on right away-taking some tentative steps before sprinting full out, stopping, and being carried up the wheel, then to jump down before she rode the full circle. At first she chased toys or lasers to get going, but now she'll jump on and run for the sheer joy of running.
Her siblings and my bolder house pets learned by watching her, but my more cautious cats have had some difficulty. If I have to lure them onto the wheel with toys, lasers, or treats and they show any hesitancy, Kakuro jumps on and tries to take over. The heavier cats keep the wheel from spinning, so she'll run up the side, then fall or leap back when she can't get any higher- usually scaring the hesitant cat away. When I try to train them in secret, while Kakuro is out of the room... she'll come running when she hears the wheel moving. (Video Starts with a more tentative Jigsaw).
I'm hoping to figure out how to more efficiently compile video clips, but Sudoku and Kakuro go up for adoption next week and their bios/collages are due, so I have to prioritize that. Fingers and paws crossed I can get a Kakuro wheel highlight video done before she goes to Petsmart- I think that will help her find a forever home!
