Another foster was going on a vacation and asked for some help watching 3 kittens. Last Saturday, Pitch, Jet, and Pepper were dropped off at my home. Pepper is easy to distinguish with his incredible fluff- and I was told he was sweet, but a little stand-offish... wants cuddles on his own time. Jet and Pitch are twins, but we could tell Pitch by a slight grey tinge to his belly. Jet was described as an aptly named active kitten who jets around the room in play.
The plan was to keep them separated until they adjusted, but the babies were really relaxed as we were swarmed by my other pets while being introduced. I was carrying them towards to the kitten room when my other foster kittens approached with interest, and the kitten visitors were very curious right back. When I crouched down, they all reached towards the others and wanted to play and cuddle. They greeted each other like old friends, so I let them co-exist while I attempted to blog. But Pepper, abandoned his siblings and new friends and demanded to be cuddled. Eventually, I had to stuff him into my shirt so I could get some work done- and he was happy to snooze there for several hours. When they were done playing, Jet & Pitch also came directly to me and settled in my lap. The entire weekend they were my constant companions while I blogged, did data entry, or just chilled.
Trying to differentiate Jet and Pitch was rough in our dim bedroom where the kittens and I spend most of our time. The subtle gray hairs were not always easy to make out. But my husband and I noticed something unique and charming about Pitch- he has a tiny kitten mohawk! Doesn't matter how many times we smoothed it down... it would just pop right back up. I cannot stop looking at it and it melts my heart every time. The husband think it makes him look like a hyena and calls him Ed. It reminds me a little of Dobby. But Pitch doesn't care what we call him, as long as it comes with our hands petting or holding him.
One of my best friends came over for kitten therapy, and Pitch was his favorite. He loves my fosters but is still a little new to kittens- had never held one until he met my Spice litter. So when Pitch would give any little wiggle, he'd quickly put Pitch down, respectful of any interest in freedom and not wanting to hold a kitten that didn't want to be held. Each time, Pitch looked at him with a stunned expression, wondering why he was no longer being held. "I was just getting comfortable... pick me back up!"
Another of my best friends called me to ask if she could bring the kids she was watching over, and these kittens were absolutely thrilled to be held. All of them are POP kittens... Purr On Pickup.
Summer break is great for allowing even more kitten loving visitors to come help me socialize the babies. This family dropped by for a kitten visit. My fosters and the fosters I'm kitten sitting were all very good with kids of all ages!
Little Jet was very clingy for the first few days but has been showing us her active side recently. She loves wand toys.
But Pepper... whoa!! I was expecting to admire him from a distance, based on his foster's description, but he's the sweetest love bug. I sarcastically but affectionately call him my Aloof Poof.... while kissing his little nose repeatedly. He and I took a long nap together, with him attempting to get closer to my face the entire time. A few times, he'd sit up and blink sleepily at me... so I'd say his name or whisper "Hi" and he'd fling himself back onto my face.
Gonna miss these kiddos when they are picked up tomorrow!
