When they came out of quarantine, the junkpile felt right at home exploring the rest of the house. Their playful spirits delighted in having more room to cavort. Some litters spread out and have to be tracked down at night when it's time for bed, but the junkpile's rambunctious playtime was always in the same room we were in... often on top of my feet. After doing some chores in the garage this morning, I walked in to find the entire group waiting for me on the hall chair. Kitten piles continue to be their preferred position.
The junkpile is an easy going bunch. They entertained me while I did data entry at vaccine clinic, and they loved everyone they met.
I also decided to try to find a way to feed the babies without my adult cats getting into things. Water bottles work, but sometimes I get distracted. This morning I built a food cage! I cut out a small kitten sized opening and wrapped the edge in some leftover fleece blanket scraps. I think it might work!
I seem to have been interrupted, as I started this post 5/22/22 but sat down today (6/10/22) to update the blog and realized I never finished it! The end of the school year does erode all my brain cells, so I'm really not surprised. The food cage, with some modifications to the design, is working very well! Only my most petite adult cat can fit into it, but the kittens can easily enter/exit. I did have to make a second entrance, as a few of them love to block the hole. After several attempts. I discovered binder clips to be the best way to hinge the top.
In their time with me, they've met Teeny & Pillie- two floof ball kittens I kitten sat for a week while their foster mom tried to vacation. Then they met Meeko- another floof ball that I brought into the home. Scrapper initially growls at newcomers, though she has never attacked or shown any aggression- but the Junkpile generally accepts newcomers into their play group.
They love humans too! Raff & Flotsam will play with ANYONE. Jetsam, of course, really want to cuddle. Riff & Scrapper more cautious at first, but easily won over by kindness... and chimkins.
I've just found out they'll head in for surgery next week and be adopted out by the end of the month- so my time with these guys is getting shorter. I've started preparing by making a group collage. I'll be updating their personal blogs, writing bios, and making their collages for the 3 heading to Petsmart. Jetsam and Raff have already found their forever families!
