It was the last clinic appointment of the day, and the foster had 5 kittens that were found in a warehouse to get shots and health checks. My partner in crime, Sarah, and I check the kittens in, do data entry to keep their medical records up to date, and other clinical support tasks. When Bear was removed from his crate to get weights, my heart did a little flip flop and I fell instantly in love with his fuzzy face. He accepted this and snuggled into my chest, where he remained for the rest of his appointment. Seconds later they took out Otter to get her weight, and Sarah hijacked her to snuggle.
To be fair, we did walk them over to the medical team to get their health checks and required shots, but we took them back to snuggle while their foster managed the other 3 kittens, picked up supplies, and chatted with the medical team.
Sarah and I retreated to the data station at the back of the room, whispering secretively about our plans to casually hold these two kittens and let their foster leave.
All in jest, to be fair, but when the foster finished up and approached us to collect the kittens, she was amused at our very not subtle attempts to keep them and she seemed fairly open to the idea. She had 3 other kittens at home being treated for a disease, and some of the kittens were very feral. With 8 kittens in 2 separate areas, it was hard to socialize all of the babies and she felt that giving up 2 of the kittens would really help ease her load and give the feral kittens their best chance to get socialized well.
So.... a little surprised but immensely pleased, I added Bear and Otter to my crew!! My clouds and the two critters were all out of quarantine so I combined the two litters. Otter was a bit dramatic. Ok, Otter was the queen of drama... making little chewbacca like growls at everyone else and burying herself into the closest human. Bear accepted his new home and new friends immediately. Both farted. A LOT. It was a very stinky, happy home.
Otter adjusted within a few days and the babies were happy to play and snuggle together, along with my kitten Nimbus. All 5 kittens were happy and well adjusted. Bear turned out to be a very social kitten with humans and cats. He almost always came running when he was called and loved to rub up against my face repeatedly, purring loudly. He also blended into the rest of the house when they were let out of the kitten room to explore, getting along with the resident cats as long as they got along with him.
Otter was stolen AGAIN. Shortly after joining my crew, Sarah took Otter home for a meet and greet with her cats and it went so well she never came back.
I began having medical issues and spent several days laying in bed, unable to do much more than sleep. Bear was my main snuggle bug in this time, curling up with me and offering me his healing purrs. Unfortunately that means I didn't get a chance to do his blog until just now... just hours before I have to send him to adoption. Hopefully it is enough to show what a great kitten he is and find him a good home.
