Like many kittens, Captain Oblivious was easily startled when thrust into a new world. But he made the fastest recovery of all time! In less than an hour he forgot his fear of me. For about 24 hours he was afraid of sudden noises and would dart off... but he'd return looking for attention in seconds. After that, he decided food, love, and attention were his favorite things, in no particular order. He is both singularly focused .. and completely distractible at the same time. He is oblivious to whatever he's not thinking about, which was great when he met his foster sister Sergeant Sassy Pants. He played quite happily while she stalked him, growling and grumbling. Captain Oblivious is one of the happiest kittens I've met. He can find joy in a floor tile.
He's super playful, but when he does slow down enough for pictures, he's got such a perfectly round kitten belly. It's very kissable!
Cap is also one of the chattiest kittens I've met. But he's always got such great things to say! MOM! I FOUND A SPECK! MOM!! I NEED THE PETS!! MOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!! THAT FOOD LOOKS SO GOOD! MOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!
Captain plays with anything and everything
Captain will play with anyone!
Cap recently discovered the magic of my unicorn bed... best accidental purchase I've made.
It's actually difficult to write about Cap cause he's so simple. Finds something to be joyful about, and ignores all the rest. Having him in my life right now is such a blessing.
11/28/21 Update
Captain is so photogenic that even my terrible photography skills can get a few great shots.
Captain has become quite fascinated by the information available to him on the internet. Turns out, searching "aQ#r##f" ends up on the Itsie Bitsie Rescue Foster facebook page. Though I try to minimize my own social media, I prefer Cap to be on social media over his other new internet habit. As I was shopping the Black Friday sales, Captain repeatedly put cat treats in the shopping cart. In a series of well timed and aimed pounces, he came very close to buying over $100 of inaba treats off chewy before I could grab him and empty the cart.
He also came to supervise this update on his blog. His purrs let me know I'm doing a decent job.
Captain's complete disregard for kitten social cues has won over the household pets. If he decides he wants to cuddle, no amount of warnings or hostility will turn him away... he remains oblivious to anything but his goal of snuggles and gets comfortable. Mochi, the 2 faced calico, is pretty used to kittens now and will sometimes even seek them out to be motherly. But she is a diva who wants them when SHE wants them and does not usually take kindly to having HER spot invaded. Daisy, his new tabby friend... is our most anti-social cat. I don't think I have a picture of ANY other foster kitten hanging out with Daisy. Daisy spends most of her time in her "Daisy Box" unless she's in her dad's lap. The other pets leave the Daisy Box alone for the most part... but Cap wanted to be there, so that's where he was.
12/23/21 update
We could learn a lot from Cap, who lives life with NO regrets. He puts his entire heart into everything he does. I once watched him play with a dot on the floor tile for 20 minutes. He'll come flying from the other side of the room if he hears his toys jingle. He LOVES to clean. I highly recommend the kitten attachment for your Norwex mop- it enhances my daily litter sweep. To be clear, it does not make the process any easier or more efficient to have a kitten riding around on my broom... but it sure is a lot more fun. And time consuming. Same for his enhanced litter box scooping support. You might be thinking it sounds completely ineffective to have a kitten jump under your litter scoop as you're shaking out the litter so he gets a litter shower on his tiny forehead... or for this kitten to try to play with the pee balls as you're scooping them, but... you'd be 100% correct. But life isn't always about efficiency or doing things the easy way. Sure, you might be surrounded by scattered litter that you can't sweep up without "help"... but it's really hard to care about any of that when he's looking into your eyes.... just waiting to be able to do it all over again!
Cap wants to be with his humans all the time. He doesn't really want to be picked up and carried, but comes running when you call him and snugglepurrs for hours. He comes running even if you don't call him- if you leave the room he is right there with you. He's a flash when you're trying to get through a closed door. Cap will tell you if he needs attention- which he always does.
