A few weeks ago I got sick. Intermittent voice loss and fatigue were my main symptoms. I spent 3 days in bed, barely able to move. The Gabors were delighted by this turn of events! Rather than being locked in their kitten kennel all day, they got to frolic while mom slept. I'm not really sure how much they played, as whenever I did wake up, they were all with me, purring in unison. Often, Zsa Zsa and Magda would be nursing on some part of my face while Eva made biscuits on my blanket under my chin. Eva sometimes tried to nurse, often making louder smacking noises than anyone else., but she rarely actually makes contact and just slurps the air in front of my finger or nose or chin.
ZsaZsa sleep nursing might be one of my favorite things and these 3 comforting me made me feel so much better!
When I finally started to feel better, the kittens started really showing their playful side. Though very needy when it's time for cuddles, they're some of the most independent players I've had! They come running when they hear any interactive play, but they can also entertain themselves for hours. HOURS. They weighed less than 2 lbs but I could hear them thundering around.
They don't seem to know their names but respond to being called. I love seeing them sprint towards me if I call for them. My husband gets home and lets them out of their kennel before I get home from work. When they hear me come in, they're bounding down the stairs to greet me. After dinner, they follow me upstairs and are always in the same room.
Zsa Zsa is the most active- often instigating a wrestling match while her sisters are still sleeping. Magda is the most chill- almost always melting in my hands when I pick her up, even if she was just sprinting around in a frenzy. The first few days Eva was the most independent... but now she never wants to be far from her humans.
It's tax season (I'm very slow and do both my taxes and my mom's taxes) and we're getting ready to launch our Spring foster training. I created and update our foster training website and we have lots of changes in our policies this year so I've been on my computer most of the weekends and almost every evening. When the kittens wear themselves out, they come to pile in my lap or on my shoulder while I work. I get used to doing everything single handed.
In fact, I get so used to doing chores and computer work with a kitten that I sometimes forget they are there. After working for hours on a particularly tricky tax/accounting problem, I began calling ZsaZsa to help myself de-stress. My husband gave me a weird look, which I ignored and continued to call her. He informed me that I was holding her. Sure enough, she was actively purring and nursing on my ear while I walked around looking for her. She's really doing everything she can to make this her permanent home. There's a big possibility we're keeping her.
