Hello Editors!

It's time for the monthly Editors Community Newsletter!

Thank you for all your contributions and enjoy the FULL VERSION below :)

Waze Communities Team.

What’s new on WME?

This month, we launched 2 popular community suggestions for WME: The first one is the Ruler, which allows editors to measure the distance between two points on the map. The second is Virtual nodes for polygons: We recently released virtual nodes for segments, and now, thanks to your feedback, we added the same for polygons! This means editors can now handle a polygon’s geometry more conveniently and from further zoom levels! Click here to read more.

Improved Lane Guidance for Complex Junctions - Meet “Paths”

Earlier this year, we launched “Far Lanes” - a long awaited capability which allows editors to create superior lane mapping and guidance. We’re happy to share that phase 2 of this feature was rolled out recently, and it includes a brand new map entity - “Paths”! It’s not often that we introduce new Map entities, and we’re very excited about this one! Click here to find out how you can use Paths to improve your local map.

October Meetups

Wow, what a month! During October we had the pleasure of meeting the Community on so many wonderful events: The Communities in Romania, Moldova, BENELUX, US SWR and US NOR held Local Meetups. The US NER community enjoyed a Waze Cafe and lastly, Regional meetups were hosted for Central America & Caribbean and for US GLR/MAR/PLN. Thanks everyone for joining!

Keeping Drivers in Australia Safe

The Waze Crisis Response team worked closely with the Australian community to update the map according to the Flooding Crisis that took place in Eastern Australia. Thanks to their efforts, drivers who tried to navigate into the afflicted areas got a pop up message alerting them about the danger. Stay safe!

Teaching Florida Officials how to Edit the Map

2 leading Community members from Florida met with officials from the local Department of Transportation, to give them a training of WME! The officials were amazed by the knowledge and dedication of our dear Community members. In the wake of Hurricane Ian, this training session was especially important to ensure that state agencies and Waze Editors are in sync and can best support communities at times of uncertainty.

Supporting the Elections in Brazil

The Brazilian community recently supported their local elections by adding and updating more than 8,000 voting locations! Thanks to the RRT (Rapid Response Team) for working on this amazing effort.

New Flemish and English-UK Voices

The Community in Belgium worked closely with the Voices team in Waze to create a new TTS voice in Flemish: say Hello to Jasmien! We’ve also released 4 new voices with regional accents for the UK: Jim from Glasgow, JJ from Birmingham, Lati from Manchester, and Dan from London. Feel free to check these out wherever you are!

Mini Map-Raid In Australia

Australia hosted a Mini Map-Raid in Queensland, where they joined forces to improve thousands of objects on their local map! Thanks to everyone who took part. Reach out to your community leader to run a Map-Raid with your community!

We want to hear from you :)
