Thanks to this newly launched feature, you can now be alerted of traffic delays before it's time to leave! This notification will pop up ahead of time to tell you about irregular road conditions, and also to suggest alternative routes before you start your drive!
We'd like to thank our Crisis Volunteers and partners from the US, Canada, Australia and Indonesia who responded to six unfortunate crises around the world during December. These brave volunteers helped by closing roads and updating Help and Rescue Center locations in response to fires, floods and a storm along with the Waze Crisis Team. Christophe Lautier, a French Local Champ was featured on Konbini, a popular media outlet! Check out this awesome 4 minute video where Christophe explains how he became a top contributor in France.
Márcio from Brazil started editing the map in 2016, to improve the map around his house. Márcio is an active member of the Editors, Beta and Localizing communities, and he also acts as a mentor for new editors. Márcio enjoys Meetups and invites anyone who has questions about editing to reach out to him. His tip for new editors: "Consult with a mentor before editing the map". Thanks Marcio!
Congratulations Australia and New Zealand - Ross, Kylie, and Matilda are here to give your directions!
The Australian Community chose to name one of their new voices Ross, to commemorate AJ Ross, known to the Australian editing community as Ituajr.
Ituajr was our beloved Global Champ and Coordinator until he unexpectedly passed away in 2020, leaving a devastated community of friends and peers behind.
We're excited that Ross will provide a uniquely Australian navigation experience, get Wazers to their destinations safely while acknowledging a great friend to Waze. For more information about Ituajr, read this post.
What's a Self-Managed community, you ask? A country with a number of dedicated local Editors and a Coordinator, who set their editing guidance to best match the local map and help manage their local community. The Moroccan community was recently promoted to Self-Managed, thanks to the efforts of the local Booster! Read more about it in this form post.
During the Mongolian Map Raid, more than 120K segments were created and edited, hundreds of Places were added to the map, while Map Problems and Update Requests were all resolved!
Thanks to everyone who helped make this magic happen! If you'd like to organize a MapRaid for your community, please contact your local leadership.
Share your community's story, be featured in an upcoming newsletter or tell us what you think about this newsletter in this form!
