New feature: See the reason for a reroute!

Remember the last time that Waze took you through a strange route and you had no idea why?

Meet our latest Reroute and Route suggestion feature for mobile, which surfaces routing decisions while driving.

See the reason for the reroute, what is the new route, and accept or reject it. Thanks to the Beta community for helping test this feature and sharing their feedback!

July Meetups and Waze Cafes

July was a busy month for our dear communities: Brazil, and also the UK and Ireland held Local Meetups. The Communities in Singapore, Malaysia and Colombia enjoyed Waze Cafes. In Colombia, 6 Waze Cafes were held simultaneously! The community named the initiative "National Waze Cafe". Want to hold a Waze Cafe for your community? Reach out to your local leader!

Portuguese Community-Made Portal Saving Lives!

The Portuguese Community built an open-source portal that takes live alert data from the Waze app (accidents, vehicles stopped, objects on road) and organizes it into a feed for different authorities, like the fire departments to use. According to local partners, the ‘PT Portal’ helped reduce the average first response time from 12 to 5 minutes!

The Community and Tour de France

Wrapping up this amazing sports event - the local communities mapped all 21 stages of the race, with more than 20,000 closures added to the map! 19 map editors had the chance to come on the Tour and see the fruit of their contribution in real life. Thank you for all your help on this exciting event!

Beacons Installed in the US National Mall Tunnels

Congrats to the US Mid-Atlantic Region community who helped the city of Washington, D.C. install Beacons! “This technology will allow for more seamless navigation,” said a Director of the local transportation department. “We’re very excited to bring this added safety to District drivers and join other major cities around the world participating in Waze’s global Beacons Program.” Read more about it here!

In Memoriam: AILe85 from France and movil611 from Colombia

The Waze Communities mourn the passing of AILe85, Xavier from France and movil611, Elio from Colombia, and send deepest condolences to their friends and family.

AILe85 acted as a local champ in France, mentored many new editors and often calmed down heated debates.

Elio always had a smile on. He was a great friend, and enjoyed taking part in community get-togethers.

The Community misses them both, may they rest in peace.
