Thankful for You - Suggestions and WME Roadmap

As we look back at 2021, we are very thankful for the contributions each and every one of you make to the Waze Communities and the Waze Map. This year so far we’ve implemented a record 15 Community Suggestions, released new features like Roadshields and Road Width, and made major improvements to systems like Junction Boxes, Element History, and improved the Tile Build Process to be more clear. We’re back! Recap of our Hybrid Meetup Pilots

November saw our triumphant return to in-person Meetups after 2 long years of the Waze Communities only connecting virtually. On November 14th the US Northeast and New England regions kicked off this hybrid pilot with an amazing event in Connecticut, which hosted 17 in-person and 25 virtual participants. Next up, on November 27th the German Community hosted 18 in-person and 12 virtual participants in Kassel, Germany.

Both of these pilot events showed that the hybrid model is an excellent way to bring the community back together, while respecting every member’s health concerns and choices. We look forward to expanding these hybrid Meetups in 2022 in coordination with local COVID regulations.

Brazil Mega Meetup

Not to be outdone by our Hybrid Pilots, the 2021 Brazil Virtual Mega Meetup took place on November 21st, really putting the MEGA in Mega Meetup with a whopping 145 participants! During this 4.5 hour event, Brazilian Wazers got to hear the latest updates from Waze Staff, solved a virtual escape room with their peers, and hosted lively Round Table sessions.

UK Arctic Plunge

This November Waze mobilized to help users in the UK keep warm during the recent Arctic Plunge extreme weather emergency. Waze UK Country Manager Ruairidh Roberts urged fellow motorists to only make essential journeys and be extra diligent using safe routes. German Community Leadership Update

The German Community had a momentous month. Beyond the amazing Hybrid Meetup, the Community’s leadership has changed over to new hands. On behalf of the whole Waze Community, we’d like to thank top_gun_de for his 10 years of dedication to both the local and global community, and welcome Iridium1 as the new Community Coordinator! Best of luck!

Meet wxw777 – or Dave as he’s known in his local community! Dave is part of our community in the United States, where he volunteers as a State Manager in Wisconsin, an Area Manager for Central Alabama and NW Iowa, and a TE Marshal for the Great Lakes Region. He has been editing for over five years, and became deeply active in the community over the last three. While he likes to edit, passing on his knowledge through mentoring and helping others (both editors and app users) is what he finds really rewarding. Dave was nominated by his community due to his active role in several regions, and in appreciation of his mentoring of new editors and trying to build the editor base in his regions. He has gained community praise for always being ready for challenges and pitching in to help with any project, and doing so with a smile!
