November 2023

Dear Editors!

It's time for the monthly Editors Community Newsletter!

Thank you for all your contributions and enjoy your reading :)

The Waze Communities Team

What's New on WME?

We have 3 exciting updates:

First, you now can add photos of a place through WME, and not only through the app!

Second, we’ve released new, updated imagery layers to the WME! These layers are available thanks to a collaboration with Google and you can switch between them to get an updated view of your editing area!

Lastly, Labels are now available for the Issue Tracker! Use Labels to star issues, mark as read and unread, and later filter by them.

All of these exciting features were requested, tested and supported by our wonderful community 🙂

New Safety Alerts

A very important feature landed recently - safety alerts show up when you drive into a crash prone area. These AI-powered alerts say: “History of crashes”, to inform drivers that they should be extra careful when driving through that road. Thanks to the Beta community for testing these alerts and sharing your feedback. Stay safe!

A New Spanish-LATAM Voice

Now you can drive with the Dominican Republic’s famous traffic expert, Capiurtecho! Get real-time info about road conditions in Spanish-LATAM, directly from the voice of the expert. Try it today!

Catch Up on Office Hours

Check out November's Waze Communities Office Hours, where we covered recent changes to the Reporting Menu, and took a first look at Permanent Hazards!

Make sure to tune in on December 3rd for our Year End Recap, where we'll celebrate all of the accomplishments we've made together in 2023, and share with you a special surprise! Register and don't miss out on the fun!

October’s Meetups

In October, communities in the Czech Republic, Germany, USA and Brazil organized their own Waze Cafes to chat about everything Waze, over food and drinks! Also, we held local meetups  in Romania, Poland, France, Canada and Mexico. Thanks to everyone who took part in organizing these events and to all of you who joined! It was great to see you ♥️

Gas Price Feed in Portugal

Thanks to the local community, Wazers in Portugal enjoy daily gas-price updates. The community created an automated feed, which brings in updated prices from an official governmental data provider.

Want your area to enjoy automated feed updates? Talk to your local leader to see how you can help!

US and Local Partners

Our amazing community members do so much to support local partners. Here are two recent stories from our US communities:

The US Southwest community recently met with transportation authorities. They got a tour, and presented on what the community can provide. As a result, they plan to mitigate traffic for Formula 1 races, and are invited to a traffic management discussion for the Las Vegas airport.

In a separate event, Country Manager Subs5 was invited to the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC to present on how he uses Waze to support drivers.

Many thanks to our dear community members for sharing Waze's impact with these important forums!

Iraq's Pilgrimage

Millions of people walk to Karbala, Iraq for the annual pilgrimage. Our community closed roads for the walking pilgrims and mapped new roads for driving that were urgently opened by the government. Thank you for keeping the roads safe for this important event!
