[TBD]Why we need responsible AI?

Introduction

Laymen explanation

Think about machine learning device doing loan approval and it is rejected. If the person questions this rejection, then normally human being provides the explanation why the decision was made. What if ML device is performing loan processing? There should be a way to explain the ML device decision.

This write-up tries to address this problem.

Technical explanation

When we talk about AI, we usually mean a machine learning model that is used within a system to automate something. For example, a self-driving car can take images from sensors. A machine learning model can use these images to make predictions (e.g. the object in front of us is a tree). These predictions are used by the car to make decisions (e.g. turn left to avoid the tree). We refer to this whole system as AI.This is just one example. AI can be used for anything from insurance underwriting to detecting cancer. The defining characteristic is that there is limited\no human input into the decisions made by the system. This can lead to many potential issues and companies need to define a clear approach to using AI. Responsible AI is a governance framework aimed at doing exactly that.
