屬名：瓊欖屬(Gonocaryum))西印度櫻桃屬(Muntingia)
別名：西印度櫻桃、南美櫻桃、假櫻桃、醋栗、勒李
原產地：產熱帶美洲、斯里蘭卡、印度尼西亞等地。
分佈：歸化台灣南部低海拔向陽處南美假櫻桃；很適合臺灣的氣候條件，種子成熟後遇到適宜的生長環境可在野外自行繁衍成當地的野果。
Origin: Produced in tropical America, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and other places.
Distribution: Naturalized South American false cherry in low-altitude sunny areas of southern Taiwan; very suitable for Taiwan's climatic conditions. After the seeds are mature and encounter a suitable growth environment, they can reproduce in the wild and become local wild fruits.

用途：
1.行道樹、庭園樹、誘鳥樹：樹性強健，成長快速，適合作行道樹、庭園樹、誘鳥樹。2.食用：果實紅熟時味香甜，味似糖漿，具特殊風味。
特性：
常綠小喬木，株高可達 6~12 公尺，側枝呈水平開展，密被星狀毛。葉互生，二列排列，長橢圓狀卵形，長 4.5~9 公分，密生絨毛狀腺毛，3~5 掌脈，有托葉，先端尖，基部歪心形，鋸齒緣，兩面密被短毛，紙質。花單生或成對腋生，雜性，花瓣 5，花冠白色；雄蕊 10~100。全年均能開花結果，但以春季盛開。漿果，扁球形，徑約 1.8 公分，果蒂有黃核色鬚毛，果柄長約 3~4 公分，密生茸毛；多肉，紅熟時味香甜，香味四溢，可鮮食；黃色種子多數，徑約 0.01公分。果實紅熟時味香甜，味似糖漿，獨具特殊風味，香味四溢，因此有人稱之為咖啡樹。繁殖可用播種、竿插或高壓法，春、秋為適期。
