February 2020

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2020. Though we have been quiet, we’ve been busy making arrangements for this term and agreeing some spending.

Before we kick off though, we’d like to give a special mention to Polly who saved her pennies to help make a difference to other people at Christmas. Here she is with her envelope full of pennies that she donated to the PTA. What a star!

We'd also like to extend our best wishes to Mrs Horan as she will soon be heading off on maternity leave - your enthusiasm and involvement in the PTA as secretary will be greatly missed!

COMING UP....

MOVIE NIGHTS ARE BACK! ON SALE NOW!! 28th February, 5pm, first school.

Tickets are £4, includes popcorn and a chocolate snack. You bring a cushion and a water bottle. Tickets are now on PARENT PAY. Please let us know if your child is at afterschool club and needs to be brought over, or allergic to anything. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. email beaverrdfundraisers@outlook.com

Movies will be announced soon!

Why are we using Parent Pay? A couple of reasons - we won't take a commission hit on the ticket sale, it's much easier for us to see who bought a ticket as people often forget to give us this info and it creates a lot of work for managing accurate registers, but most importantly it means you can only buy a ticket for the show your child qualifies for. Sadly lots of people try and sneak a child into the first school movie when they've sold out by buying a junior ticket.

We need volunteers to run this event successfully - please sign up at PTA Social

Mother's Day Primroses - ON SALE NOW! Order by 2nd March

You'll receive a form in book bags this week for Mother's Day Primroses. These were a huge hit last year and made great pocket money gifts. Primroses are £1.50 each and must be ordered by 2 March so we can get them ordered and to classes by the Friday before Mother's Day. You can also order online here

On the same form you'll find a selection of spring and summer bedding plants. These are grown by a local family run nursery and are fantastic quality and price. Ours lasted well into September last year. These too can be ordered online. We'll take orders for these into April.

Lost property and second hand uniform.

You may have noticed the lost property bin outside the school has gone because it wasn’t keeping things dry. The PTA sorted through all the clothes and washed and returned everything with a name. These items have gone to the school so they can be given back to children. The clothes without a name were washed and put into second hand uniform. Unfortunately lots of the clothes inside the store were sodden and spoiled and had to be thrown away / recycled for scrap. A few items that were non uniform - coats etc have been washed and returned to the bin now inside the school. You may be lucky and find items that are unnamed and washed there.

Remember you can help raise money with Stamptastic when you label your children’s clothes. Click here to order you stamp and ink pad and put M206SX in the discount box when you order. We’ll get a donation and you will get 15% off your next purchase. This term we have already raised £86 this way.

Second hand uniform is always available to buy at coffee mornings 9-10 Fridays in the old nursery building. All welcome.

We'll be holding a big sale next term when we do our Easter Egg Hunt. Donations of uniform welcome. Drop off at coffee morning or contact us to arrange collection.

WORLD BOOK DAY, 5th MARCH We’re planning a second hand book sale to mark World Book Day. If you can donate books for all ages we’d be very grateful - books for Tweens especially welcome to boost our stocks for older children. We’ll also be donating prizes for World Book Day initiatives Mrs Noden is running. More details on all this soon.

Lots to look forward to!

We’re also planning a Taste of Eid event, quiz night, Father’s Day offer, and of course the summer fun day!

SPENDING UPDATE

We have allocated money to the following projects

  • SENCO equipment for special needs learning
  • Yr 1 role play areas will be revamped
  • £1,200 of reading books will go on order soon
  • Yr 6 business project will run in the summer term
  • Art equipment to provide the same facilities at the juniors as there are at the first school
  • AV system for the junior school
  • Flamenco dancing and music for all children was paid for by the PTA on Spanish Day.

We are now working with the nursery team to get some immediate equipment in place. More on that soon!

CHAIR AND TREASURER TO STEP DOWN: Don’t forget Kate and Sam will be stepping down in the autumn, so if you’re interested in taking on the PTA let us know. We can give you a detailed hand over and lots of advice and support to get your first term off to a flying success. Without volunteers the fundraising will stop and the outside play areas will stall. It’s a rewarding role and one that helps you develop / rediscover new skills, meet great people and make a difference. Email beaverrdfundraisers@outlook.com for more info of if you'd like to arrange time to chat about it.
