Permission Slips

The work we do as educators is couched in emotions. ALL of them. You can run through the entire gamut in a matter of a few moments when you are working with young minds and hearts. Our automatic response is to help our students navigate those emotions but to hold our own at bay. WE MUST CHANGE THIS HABIT! It drains our resilience and has negative impacts on us as people and as educators.

This month, we take a look at a strategy coined "permission slips." Created by the amazing Brene Brown, this ritual provides a daily opportunity to give ourselves permission to do and feel the things that build us up and to say NO to the things that don't.  Explore the resources below to support you with this work.

Learn to Give Yourself Permission

Grab your field guide and set aside some time so that you can spend a little extra energy on pages 94-95 in Chapter 5

Author Tina Boogren shares her take on Permission Slips and gives you some ideas to start you thinking about what you might give yourself permission to do.

Brene has created a free resource hub for educators on her website called Daring Classrooms. Working with educators around the country, she has created suggestions for integrating her work on creating brave and safe spaces for all students into classrooms. This activity on permission slips is just one of many integration ideas she shares.
