Creativity As An Avenue to Empowerment

This month's focus in Onward is on the habit of play and create and the disposition of courage. In Chapter 10, Elena says, "Art is a vehicle for connection and empathy; it combats loneliness, alienation, and dehumanization; and it helps us understand ourselves better. Creating art that does this is an act of political resistance against those who seek to divide us."

As we move through this month, be thinking about the connection between ALL types of creativity and equity. How can we offer opportunities for ourselves and our students to express who we are through creative expression? And then how do we intentionally use this work to build bridges of understanding and acceptance? From song to poetry, dance to photography and everything in between, opportunities for creative expression are everywhere. Start your thinking with the resources below.
