Optimism

Optimism is a place of power for creating and maintaining resiliency. We can feed optimism and increase our resiliency by interpreting events in ways that lift us up, not undermine our strength and determination. This is often easier said than done, though. Since optimism is a key trait of the resilient, we most definitely want to find ways to foster this emotion. And one of the great things about this disposition is that it can be learned and strengthened through intentional practice.

Explore Chapter 3 of Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Educators for more detailed support for this month's disposition of optimism. Consider including some of these as the topic of conversation during your weekly mentor/mentee meeting.

Read pages 90-92 for more detailed information on what optimism is, the role it plays in filling your resilience reserves, and how we can use our own optimism to lift up and change the perspectives of others.
