Take Care of Yourself

In the words of Elena Aguilar, author of Onward, "Self-care is the root of resilience when you're dragging yourself toward winter break and your emotions are raw." This time of the year is TOUGH. In fact, it might be the toughest time of the year, making taking care of ourselves even more important. Self-care means making intentional decisions to put our mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being at the forefront of our work. When you care for yourself, then you're in the right space to do the same for those around you.

As you will read in Chapter 6 of Onward, our bodies and emotions are "inextricably intertwined"  and what we do (or don't do) for one will unavoidably affect the other. In its entirety, Onward is focused on the emotional self-care and resilience of educators through building and cultivating essential habits and dispositions. Chapter 6, and the resources below, will focus on how to take care of our bodies so that we can be in the physical spaces we need to be in order to adequately tend to our emotional needs.

Consider including some of these as the topic of conversation during your weekly mentor/mentee meeting.
