My Possible 11

Eleven

At TISA we will support the application to 11 Universities. You do NOT have to apply to 11 but this number enables students to apply to different countries and different application systems. The UK system called UCAS allows for applications to 5 courses and it is highly recommended that if you are applying to the UK that you put 5 choices into the system. In the UK students apply to a particular program so applying to two programs at the same University would take up two of the five slots. Other systems, like the US or Canada, do not have limits, but each application requires hours of work from the student and the school, and the cap allows for all students to be able to receive support, and enough spots to spread schools across the reach, good fit, and safety spectrum as shown below. In addition most applications have a fee that can run from free to around $100 USD per application.

Choosing Your Programs

So with each application taking time and resources, it is strongly encouraged that you strategise which universities you will apply for to maximize your opportunities. You will be asked to not have more than 1-2 reach schools, between 2-7 good fit schools, and no fewer than 1-2 safety school applications. (The exact numbers in each of the categories depend on how many applications you are sending in total.) If you are just applying to the UK, you may wish to have one reach and one safety, and the remaining 3 as good fit applications. A "Reach" application is one where academically the average accepted student is above your current achievement level. A school may also be a reach financially if you need to have a scholarship in order to make the school financially feasible. Some colleges are so competitive that due to very tight admissions percentages they may be considered a "reach" for everyone. A "Safety" is a program where you are fairly sure of an acceptance. This could be because they accept most all applications, or that the average student is well below your current level of achievement. Please see your Counselor if you have any questions or concerns. A "Good Fit" application are schools where you academically, personally and financially look like students who are currently in attendance. ALL of the Universities you apply for should be programs where you would be excited to attend. Please see the chart below for more information.
