This is the document where we organised the questions provided to us in the Brief Guide.
Rachel was kind enough to email us an outline that we might use to structure our project. This is the copy of it that Frazer and I can work on if we so choose.
UPDATE: we decided to use it as a draft, to make it easier on both of us when we fill out our chosen Canva template.
This is a screenshot of the title of my project. I tried to download it to my Google Drive to share, but that is a paid feature on Canva. The link to it is below.
Proficiency: How did you develop your technical skills and knowledge? Give examples of the skills and knowledge, techniques, and self-directed research that inform your project (min. 50 words).
This project was mostly building on what we did for Brief 2. I've learned more about the practicality of starting and operating a VR business, including some of the issues and trends present in this industry, such as the accessibility of VR equipment. It's also made me think about things like funding and product distribution, which may not have come up on my radar otherwise.
Process: How did you improve your workflows and processes, including changes and setbacks? Give specific examples of your research and how it influenced your creative process (min. 50 words).
I had to do lots of research about how we could acquire hypothetical funding. We can define ourselves as a recreational service provider, as long as we have the relevant licenses and permits such as for "playing sound/video recordings" (Business.gov.au, 2021). At the beginning of the Brief we were given a list of recommended questions to answer. However, they were all vague and it was difficult to come up with straightforward responses. I had the idea of grouping the questions together into categories, such as "who we are" and "target audience". This helped because it allowed us to think a bit more broadly.
Person: What communication and collaboration skills did this project require, and how did you develop these skills? How did you manage collaboration, receiving and giving feedback to others? (min. 50 words)
Frazer and I work quite well together, and we're in constant contact via Discord to make sure that we're always on the same page. We decided to do as much of the work as possible collaboratively, and then write up the final draft individually. This means that we can save some time for other assignments and reduces our workload a bit. Additionally, Rachel has been wonderful in clearing up the many questions we've had so far, and provided us with a template to guide the structure of our project.

Appraisal: Overall, how successful was your project? What worked or didn't work, and why? How did it match with your expectations? Give specific examples, screenshots or links (min. 50 words).
I'd say this project was relatively successful in that I got it finished on time, but I'm not particularly confident about the grade yet. I struggled a bit to meet the wordcount, as there was only so much I could write about before starting to repeat myself. It wasn't particularly difficult - especially since we'd already done most of the research with Brief 2 - and I wrote up the first 1,300 words in a day, following a few days of planning. The last Brief was tough and I expected this to be much the same, but it was difficult in its own way.
Challenges: What obstacles did you overcome and how? What lessons did you learn? (min. 50 words)
My biggest challenge was writing enough without going back over information repeatedly. Eventually, I was able to bulk it up with more research in the funding section. Because Frazer and I had done much of the product and market research already, the tricky part was putting it into separate documents that wouldn't sound too similar. I was a bit confused with the idea that Brief 2 was a group project, and that Brief 3 (which followed on from it) was supposed to be individual.
Future Goals: How will you improve your skills for future projects? What will you do differently in your next project? What will you repeat? (min. 50 words)
Next time, I might try to break up the sections into more manageable subheadings instead of tackling the entirety of our Business Position at once. The only problem I'd need to watch out for is over-compartmentalising. I found it helpful to have all of the research and planning done ahead of time, as it made writing up the final draft much easier and allowed me to concentrate on meeting the word count. I've discovered that doing the difficult and tedious stuff first is a good way to make the whole project go quicker, because you can bash out a reasonable final draft even if not feeling particularly inspired once all the information is there.
